As an extension of the portrait-quickies I've been doing in the Speed Painting II thread I decided to do charicatures of the members of a writing group I'm with. These are the first six, I think there are about twenty members.

Actually very happy with how these turned out, which is a surprise considering how frustrating the straight portraits were. Charicatures are sooo much easier.

Row.

Wow! Very nice! I'm loving the detail around the eyes/chins. The fourth one looks a bit like Rosie O'Donnell.

Oh I love them! They look great. I dunno why but I love the glare on the glasses of the first guy! Great work! I love how a simple line of color makes that highlight on the side of the face. great stuff!

Haha, that guy with the moustache is just brilliant! Great stuff, Sumaleth. Hope you're having fun with this and not getting abuse from your work-mates for screwing up their features ! I doubt you would, though.

Thanks for the comments! They have enjoyed the pictures, although personally I'm less than happy with #9 and #14 (last one).

The lesson learned is that caricatures are largely a 2D "special effect" and if you try to apply them to a 3D face (ie. one thats turned from front on) it's much, much harder. Although Kruger does it no problem, so I guess it's just a matter of practice, but for now I need to stick to mostly front-on pictures I think.

These really are fantastic!

Your seventh is easily the best. How can anybody have a face like that? Brilliant.

dont you find it so much easier doing caricatures of people you know? I tried doing a caricature of george W. bush (no, not as a monkey!) and just couldnt pull it off, took me about 60 reference images and videos to get him right
