...a rat.

A quickie--the first rat I've done in ages. Technically, I didn't REALLY have time to do this, but I am an evil slacker. Nyah.

It was inspired by this:

"Una vendetta in domino
 ci che torna all'uopo.
Fra l'urto delle maschere
Non fallir lo scopo;
Sar una danza funebre
Con pallide belt."

--Verdi, "Un Ballo in Maschera"

Hey, that's not what I expected! Okay, yes, it was exactly what I expected. But it's still great!

P.S. I don't speak Italian.

I like how gracefull it is.

One thing that bothers me is the bloodstain. It looks like a little blotch. But nothing more. I'd expect that to soak into the fur. Form an irregular looking stain.

All in all it's pretty nice though.

As always, I must say I love your colours (or lack thereof), your muted look is terrific and recognizable. The textures are very fine here too. And it was not what I expected - Nice swirly composition, thumbs up. For critique, I too have a small problem with the blood drop, maybe it is because it stops my viewing motion? I follow the neck, the feathers, the mask, the snout, and it halts at the drop. It leads my eye to a large, quite uninteresting blank space in the downright corner. Is there something that can be added there? Something to lead our eye up to the neck again?

I like this one...especially the mask and fur. Great attention to detail.

*Stares.*

I have this set as my desktop background now...

You know what this looks like? It looks like it should be on the cover of a novel or something... And a good one, at that...

Sorry about the lack of translation. The quote is from an opera called "The Masked Ball", by Verdi. Some conspirators are planning to kill Gustav III, King of Sweden, at a masked ball (and they do it, too!) Apparently, this was loosely based on some actual occurrence, but I'm not really up on Swedish history.

Anyway, the quote means something like this:

"[It will be] a vendetta in costume; that's how we'll get our revenge. Hidden by the masks, we won't miss our target. It will be a funereal dance with pale beauties." (It doesn't translate very well...either that, or I'm just not a good translator.)

Anyway, that's the general idea.
