Yesterday I finished my dragon picture. There are still some strange things in it, but all together Im quite happy with what it turned out to be.

Good job, i think it went a long way since you started.
right now, the thing that's bothering me the most is the colors in the foreground- they seem too saturated and bright considering the environment and lighting. try tinting the entire foreground to a darker greyish/bluish color (which is the diffuse lighting coming from the sky) and light the front (the surfaces that are facing the sun) with brighter orange/yellow colors.

Hey, this is really nice. Beautiful details on the dragon. I can't really say anything bad about this pic, in my eyes it's perfect!

Oooh... Those highly stylized textures are just delicious.

Hehe, thanx. I just got up and read the replies. You made my day.
Bilbo: thanks for the suggestions. I will give it a try since I also think that the dragon and the rock look somewhat separated from the rest of the picture and I think what you suggested might solve this.

His wings seem to be curving in opposite directions. The wing on our right is concave and the wing on our left is convex. Since the wing on the left is convex it is not parallel with the spine like the right wing is. If you're going to go back and touch things up, like the color as bilbo suggested, you might want to do something with that left wing. But thats the only thing thats look "wrong" to me.

i see a dragon howling at the sun

what else is going on in the image?

have something happening, whether its a secret to the viewer or not...just give it some more expression, maybe another character that wants to fire an arrow at its head...

just my 2 cents

I agree with that saturation tip - and that farmost wing looks a bit odd when mentioned. It should probably be partly hidden by it's body.
I'm quite new to this forum, and there seems to be some very heavy focusing on 'realism' through a kind of near-abstraction here. Being so precise, showing the different textures instead of hinting, this one functions well as an illustration, although it leaves little for the imagination. Does anyone here _not_ see the dragon, the scales?

Look forward to seeing the next piece, Antx!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Im still pretty new to 2D painting and can need all tips and hints I can get.

There is one thing that is strange. Im actually happy with the left wing (not saying perfectly...), but the right one is too flat I think. How come that you guys see it different?

Anthony: Does it really give the impression hes howling? That was not the intention. :-(Hes just sitting there with open mouth, like dogs do it.
>>have something happening<< Yes its not very interesting to look at, thats true. At some point I will also do pictures with action in it, but for now I better keep it simple and try to get the basics right. Im just not there yet.
