Hello all! I finished this thing a while ago, love to hear some comments and critiques so let me know what you think.
And if you can think of a good name for it I'd love to know.

Thank you!

Hello, nice pic ! I especially like the sky, the swirl works really well and the budha looks ace.
I'm not too keen on the thing the budha is on, it looks very flat.
Also the lava for me extends to far forward, it looks good near the budha but starts to
look like its just a procedural texture on a flat plane near the bottom of the pic.

Is this painting all drawn or is some 3d modelled ?

Got no idea for a name sorry !

Hey excellent stuff! I love the sky very cool effect, the image has a very vast panoramic look to it which I also love. The only thing Id say is that there is a hell of a lot of lava down there not really adding too much to the whole composition of it. maybe if you cropped it so that there was less lava visible... oh idea, even add a boat going through the lava towards the Buddha with some people standing up in it looking out towards it. Then there might be a bit more of a visible theme to the image. But all in all great... ever thought about maybe doing a tutorial for skies? Love the way youve given them that translucent quality so the light seems to glow through them really nicely.. well done!

toenail & Jolyon - Thanks for the reply guys, I really appreciate it. As you can see I cropped the bottom part of the pic, I think that was a good idea. The sky was actually done 2 years ago for another painting that I didn't like, so I took it apart and repainted the bottom half. I love the clouds too (the power of the one pixel brush) But I can't take credit for the Buddha, that's from a photograph. It was my first attempt at a matte painting. I wanted to incorporate real photographic elements to a painted background and see what I could come up with, but I think my approach was wrong. I should have gotten photographs for reference on the rock texture and the lava as well, instead I somehow chose to do it all freestyle. The result look more cartoon-y than real, but I'm still quite happy with it. Hopefully the next one would be better. About The name... I thought of something like "Heaven and Hell" type names... but that didn't really fit... oh well.

NullTygre: That's good too, I suck at coming up with names... can wait to have my own kid. lol

Quasar: Thanks a lot, it took a while. I think the sky looks better than the bottom half and I did that a long time ago. Am I getting worst...

Thanks for your comments I really appreciate it. Pile them on if you have more!

Looks nice. My only comment would be that the perspective looks a little weird on that thing the budda is sitting on. It looks kinda "flat"...

Is it all done in photoshop? The lava looks the "clouds filter" with a little perspective distortion. Is it?

Markus : Thanks, yeah it does look a kinna flat. I tried to look at that part as a cylinder, but I guess I could have done a better job. I think I was having problem with it because the main light source was from the top, it would have probably been easier if it was at an angle. And the lava creates a second light source that's kinna hard to figure out too since it's all around the "cylinder"
Yes, the lava was a "cloud filter". I was kinna tired of it by the end, and not using reference didn't really help either. But there's no 3D software involve in this piece if that's what you're asking. I'll probably repaint the bottom half and the middle part if I can find the time and some good reference. But I'm glad you think it's nice. Thanks alot for your input.
