Introductory post:
Hello, all.
About eight days ago I found this forum, and what a revelation! I registered today (or yesterday? Hmmz...)
I am more into using the raw pencil, but seeing all your works here made me realize the possibilities are endless with digital colouring or painting. So I gave it my first shot using Photoshop and a mouse. I already had some very basic knowledge about the program (for school). I'm a 20-year old Belgian slacker studying product design. And seeing all the talent at this board, I've got myself a new goal: leeching all this knowledge (I am very unschooled) and sharing the few things I learnt through drawing.
This image was a sketch I did during a physics lesson, pressing down hard on a propelling pencil. I scanned it, blurred it, adjusted the contrast and painted underneath the line-layer. That's about it.
Please comment and criticize so I can learn from my mistakes. Tell me what you would've done differently.
Thanks, jome |

I don't really qualify myself as good enough to give critiques but for a first try this is pretty good. The concept of the dino thing is neat and your line-work is very crisp.
The background needs work though. It is kind of distracting and doesn't really give any indication of a light source. It just looks "random".
It's extremely tough with a mouse but worry less about the lines and just go for painting the forms in on your next try. Loosen up and have fun. It will show in your work.

Pretty good. It could use some more armor highlights though.
Reminds me of my robo-animal

Thanks for the kind comments. The background could be toned down, that's right.
About the armor highlights, I thought it would look right when it gave you the feel of a CAT bulldozer. Texturized, the paint affected by the dirt, no shiny stuff.
(By the way, homestead is very slow since some days. It works if I click "show image" in Opera 6.)
