Just finished three little quick-sketch thingies and had to post them somewhere. I'm very happy so far. Crit away, I'd appreciate any thoughts! (UPDATE: Added second version below! -- 44Kb)

(Still doing the whole decrepid visual garbage thing, heh heh.)

well, 'hierarchy' sort of implies that those higher up command or coordinate those below. you're not intruding - we're all learners here, and we all started somewhere.

but of course, you don't need to get all modest when the stuff you do is this good. very simple and expressionist, i love it.

I also like the middle piece for the figure's gesture, but I am also instantly drawn to the piece on the right. It has a sort of nightmare-before-christmas-thing going for it. I hopped on over to your site to have a look-see, and liked that stuff as well. Often, when I see stuff I like, I instantly am inspired to add to it, or get ecited about where the artist could take it next. I would love to see some art nouveau influence in your work- check out Alphonse Maria Mucha's work, and see if maybe just maybe you can see a potential connection here too. Or maybe I just need some sleep. By the way, was this originally conceived as a triptych?

This is slow, but have a look:

Mucha site

imagine your stark, dramatic pieces married to the almost ornamental style Mucha uses... Hope I'm not being to forward here...

Thanks for the encouragement!

Kahboom: Loved Mucha's work -- particularly "Four Seasons" and "North Star", being classier and more complete versions as I'd envisioned them. Thanks for the link!

Afraid I don't know what a "triptych" is, but I don't think I meant to do that. The three girls are individual projects which I unified by cropping and coloring similarly, way after the fact. The far right one (little miss popular, it appears, and the most recent) wasn't even done on paper. Sketched her out at 2:00 a.m. with a Jhonen Vasquez / Vampire Princess / Ashley Wood thing happening in my brain (check this out -- Wood is a god).

Thanks again, all!

i like the right one, however the middle one has the coolest posture of the three in the end.

and don't mind that other stuff, this isn't a competition to my knowledge. an artist to me is measured by much more than "who's been doing what longer".

a triptych is a work of art composed of three pieces, linked together thematically and physically... Glad you liked Mucha, I love the hard cartoony edges mixed and the stylized poses... Checking out wood- a little disturbing, but obviously very talented... Keep posting, it'll be nice to see where you go next.

Cool, and thanks some more.

Just posted a new six-pic series -- sorry about the ugly, ugly layout, dunno why I did that -- so I guess that blows the "unified" trio thing away. My problem is that I force a lot of different things together -- half the Girls here were sketched with an Aiptek, the other half with pencil -- and I crosshatched and textured in Photoshop (warning! novice alert!)...

The unifying factor has something to do with the alone-ness of the Girls. Or at least that they ARE all Girls. Sigh...
