Hey,
Here's another illustration I did the other day. It's a christmas card for a norwegian bakery chain, so I made a santa with a baker hat giving cakes to a little boy...inside a bakery shop...aw, whatever.
And, yes, the type of motif is very inspired by leyendeckers santa and probably every other x-mas drawing from the 50's.
Hope you like it anyways....

Oh wow! I love this! It's so... comforting. I feel all warm and happy when I look at it. You definitely captured the Christmas spirit well!
Man, I'm hungry.. I need a gingerbread man. |

Nice image though

Look at those tiny pigs! Those are great. We could have the world's smallest bacon. Can I have a miniature pig for Christmas, Mom?!
Mom?....
Oh wait, I'm at work.
Dad?

I like this a lot, though I have to say that the feeling of them being inside a bakery shop didn't come through at once. I account this to the most part to the white wall - the color you often see the outside of houses painted in - and to the little things on the floor, which looked like leaves from a tree to me. So I'd suggest to make the background colour a little warmer and also to include some sort of edge between the floor and the wall. Though that might maybe look strange on a printed postcard. |

Yeah very cool. I like your line work alot...very stable/balanced.
The white edges somehow take away from the bakery feel of things. Do you think you could do a quick take on what it would look like if it were painted to all corners?.
Inapropriate touching by Santa?

Hey Guys thanks for the replies ! And I'm happy you liked it. Hehe, the gingerbread man is being lynched thought of that, but it sure looks like that
The background, yeas I agree that you don't get the feeling that it a wall. Actually, I did that for two reasons, 1 because I started to paint the whole thing darker, but found that that it would make the whole picture a lot more work to do, according to light etc...which I chose not to do, because the payment on the illustration was too low, even for this one.
2. the reason why the wall is kind of bright, is that I kind of wanted just to frame in the characters and window as elements in a way, and remove the enviroment in a way....they way that was very typical before, with commersial illustrations. But, I agree that you don't get a feeling of a wall behind them....funny, it works much better like this on print actually, you don't really think that much about it then. (I'll see if I find some time to post one with a rough wall behind though, as requested)
long explanation/exscuse sorry.
oh yeah, I did a similar drawing last year, of myself as the santa holding a small child. Actually that's part of the reason why I got the job. That's allso why I've kept it quite similar in style, then I knew they would be satisfied.
Thanks a lot guys for all the nice feedback and comments, and not least all the compliments. ...very appreciated ! |

I just noticed something...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't Santa have black boots? |
