Now, some of you may choose not to do this, but I would highly, HIGHLY recomend it:
download the song 'Exile' by Enya
and listen to it when you look at this picture. I want your feedback on whether you think it fits the music or not.
This is an old man (inspired by the song) by the ocean, visiting a place that's very old and meaningful to him. Kind of a portrait piece of a man who's been forced to suffer through all of lifes worst throws.
Now, like I said earlier, i'm just getting back into this, so I'm going to need some crits here, badly.

i wont really crit it because i think you're working in your own direction and have what it takes to further without much comments. i could easily say things that would accidentally lessen the 'matt' qualities of the image :] but, i will say something about the music- i think it's fitting, but not entirely. it's easy listening, but i get completely different images in my head when the song plays (tho i didnt listen to the lyrics much). i think i would prefer this image with ambience (trees swaying\ocean) instead of music. i like the stern face :] |

very much so.
sounds like a song of mourning.
the man seems to be thinking of a very sad time in his past.
good work matt, youre my hero! |

I personally had a different picture in my mind when listening to the song. I actually have had that song for a long time, so I never saw your picture first.
When I hear exile, I think, desert, oasis, those type of things. The guy looks good enough in the picture for sure, however, I would check those trees. The seem flat and lack depth.
I'm sure your still working on the pic though. |

Good job Matt. You want crits? The only thing I'd say is that it doesn't look like you've touched on really bringing depth to the forest. You might've had this in mind but I say it because other elements are pushed further than this area. I want to see more of the scene. Anyway, later!

I don't have time to find the song, but I'll give a couple crits on the pic. You might want to define your light source more, on both the figure and the background. The closer trees could use some definition to pull them out from the farther back trees-just a way or ordering the background. Also, you might want to clear out some trees, to let us know that he is by the sea, which is hard to tell right now. Good work, keep it up! |

ohh darn! i read 'exile' by enayla
didn't know she made music too
ok, i have that tune.. i think it fits nicely, calm colors and so on..
to comment the picture some more i gotta say that the blue color on the water or whatever it is in the background gets to intense for my taste at the bottom of the picture.. i think it sticks out too much.
but i love the character. |
