Sorry for being a lurker lately. Life gets so hectic sometimes. Big projects, n'all... case in point:
Thought you guys might appreciate my latest work at ...well, work. ;} It's the poster for an upcoming local annual festival called the Frozen Alligator Cajun Bayou Heritage Festival say THAT five times fast. Final size: 10" x 24.5". Full color, trying to snag some gloss cover stock for it. This is a freebie poster (charity event).
The background is a doctored photo. It used to be a brightly colored fall scene, I made it frosted. The alligator ice sculpture, however is 100% from scratch Photoshop. Little to no reference (ice is so fickle it completely changes refractions with every shape, so how often would you see this particular sculpture to use as reference? Yeah... I couldn't find any either.).
Hope you like it. ;} Crits are okay, but not necessary. |

Sweet!!! Merekat you are amazing.. my only crit is that the ice doesnt seem to distort the background enough... so it looks a bit more like glass than ice.. but still I wouldnt complain at all..
great stuff.. |

Meekrat, that poster is just plain mental! Your clients must've been very happy with that!
What sort of music do they play at this festival, BTW? Is it a pretty big festival (if it isn't, it might be this year
)? |

This is really cool! (sorry can't help it
It looks wonderfull, I like the way you've wrapped the text around the sculpture, and the ice rendering is simply amazing.

looks good. gives the information clearly and concisely. the alligator looks great and pulls the eye through the piece, to every bit of pertinent information. only problem is the little square with "something presents" part of it might be that its a lot smaller than the full print will be but it seems to break up the flow of the title. confused me. other than that...marvelous as ever. |

Looks great. Did you come up with the concept too, or did the advertising department at your work do that? Either way, good stuff.

Just as amazing as always from you! you succeed to capture icy feeling nicely. The right hand looks to be at kinda "uncomfortable" position.
Do I notice a typing mistake: "Febuary" ?!?
anyway: GrEat! |

Wow! what a response!! Thanks, everyone! Yes, I'm very pleased with how the poster turned out as well. To answer you individually:
maceface: thank you. ;} yes, it wasn't that easy. this was my first shot at illustrating ice but then I'm always up for a challenge. ;}
awetopsy: is THAT the key? I was trying to figure out the difference between ice and glass other than jaggies and cracks here and there. hmmm... thanks for the tip!
notic: danke, danke. ;}
BIGJon: thank you ;} I was hoping the poster would inspire audiences to come.
Highfive: heheh. Oh, I think there are brass bands this year. they're pushing for that. as to what kind of music in particular, I would assume anything new orleans would play, but I really don't know. never been to the festival, and this is my second poster I've done for them. heheh. ;}
shaded: oh thank you. ;}
dr. zulu: hehehe. thanks! I had a lot of fun doing it.
hyperion: thanks!
melted petal: yeah, I wasn't quite sure where to put it. and the way the 'B' works with the 'A' of alligator and the 'h' fits just so, there's a bit of a gap there. I thought it might be a good place to fit the 'Blue Suit Presents' info. *shrugs* suggestions?
Malachi: heheheh. thanks, but Mark and I ARE the advertising department. I don't remember who came up with the idea first, but we kinda work with each other. Right now we're arguing the direction of this piece. He has a completely different vision for the design. One that doesn't include my park background or text design. *shrugs* We're trying to come to a compromise. ;}
Tepox: yup. ;} you caught me. I fixed it, thank you SO much for the heads-up. Sometimes I get so focused on the illustration, such petty things as 'type' really get in my way. *chuckle*
Thanks again everyone for your marvelous comments and crits! I LOVE this forum... ;} |
