This is a picture I did a couple of years ago. It's been reduced down from it's original size of A3 at 150 pixels per inch, so as you can imagine, it brought my poor computer to its knees.

Hey, nice picture man! That must have been a lot of work. It was definetly worth it.

If you want to go further with it then I would add one or two more babarians not so far away. As it is now it looks like he is running away from them, since there's a huge distance between him and his followers.
Also you might want to shrink his followers the more they are away. Just like you did it on the very top of the image. But in a bigger area. And maybe some white bouncelight?

I like that a lot.. especially the army behind that backs up the character thus the whole piece. Nice nice nice. Any more ?
I just finished reading Bernard Cornwell Arthurian's trilogy which is filled with battles and shield walls and such.. might explain why I liked that piece so much ehehe !

If I was there, I think I would hang back with the other guys. He looks like he wants to get into the fight first so he can kill the most people. Me I would think about following up the rear somewhere and pick off who ever was left!
Love to see who hes atacking!

Thanks for all your crits, guys! I'm glad you guys all like the background as it took quite a bit of work, but it looks like it got the effect across.

S4Sb - Good point on adding another two warriors. He does look like he's running away from his followers rather than leading them. Yes, there would be a lot of light reflecting from the snow, so his shadows wouldn't be that dark either.

soulnine - the blizzard is just white brush strokes with motion blur applied to them, as I guess you figured out. ;-)

egerie - I've got another black and white piece that I'll put up sometime this week. Is Bernard Cornwall Arthurian a really good fantasy writer? Haven't read enough books about seige battles at stuff so far.

Kungtotte, macho2k and Briareos - Cheers! If you like the look of this guy, I'll try doing more pics of him in the future.

Monkey Majick - I'll try

Shiro - That's pretty much what he's trying to do, cos he's not supposed to die, see?
Me? I'd jump on my shield and just toboggan down that damn slope instead of screwing up my knees running

Highfive : Oh yay ! Is that B/W work also from a few years ago ?
I like what Bernard Cornwell writes since it's different. He gets the human dimention in his work and always leaves the reader to decide if there is magic or not. He wrote about the King Arthur era with a participating narrator. The 3 novels aren't balanced (which not necessarly bad), but there is plenty of fighting and battles. The last one is filled with them. Blood and mangled steel.

Btw, who in their right mind would launch an attack during winter and snow ?? The army of darkness maybe.. I just noticed how they don't sink trough snow either Guess it's not THAT deep..
Ehehe using a snowsled to get down the hill.. Would be handy to carry a spear on those. Would probably scare the ennemy ; Crazy-Carpet horde !
I'll shut up now.

Ah, blood and steel! Glorious! I wish they'd do more movies like Braveheart and Gladiator with all the gore instead of these hit-them-with-the-sword-and-they-scream-and-fall-down acts that come out as well, like The Thirteenth Warrior. Sounds like a good read.

Yeah, the snow doesn't look very deep in the background. Good point. It looks like they're running down an iceberg I suppose.

Hmm, snow-sled with spears on it...
*gears start turning in head*
