No, it's quite nice! The colors are well chosen and the background fits pretty good.
The thing that could be better imho: The smoke, it is too strong. If you don't wanna paint it new, it works perhaps better on a separate layer with some transparency settings. I guess the shadow isn't finished yet, is it? |

hmmm... sorry but I disagree...I think you could have chosen some better colors and a nicer background. The colors are 'green' 'red' etc...like you chose them from MSpaint, I would recomend finding a really cool photograph of something (anything) and picking cool colors out of it. If this guy was blue, like a pale grey blue, with a golden/brown/grey background, I think that would be beautiful (among a billion other choices).
As with EVERY single critique I've been making for the past year:
s t u d y a n a t o m y
this will help you with everything, guaranteed. Can't stress it enough.
Aside from it being a fairly juvenile subject I think you handled it okay for a beginner. Now just make an actually background instead of using filters and you're good to go.

(oh! and I would recomend croping the image around the character, right now there's way to much background and I find it hard to refocus on the character.) |

thanks for the comments
yeah the subject is quite juvenile
it's actually my first serious attempt to color in photoshop
maybe i should focus more on colors; these colors were chosen more random
i think i'll work on a background now when time is on my side |
