Used a photo reference for this one
from the movie *12 monkeys*
First time using photo texture with photoshop painting...turned out okay.
just an image I did for an images and ideas class. Assignment was to get an idea, backed with 500 words written, and an image detailing your statement. Mine was about the media and technology's control on society.

very nice...but you can raise the contrast a bit, or?

"First time using photo texture with photoshop painting...turned out okay." - how do you make that? its very nice indeed.

Very cool dude. I totally recognized that the moment I looked at it. I'd agree it needs a little bit of contrast but then again a lot of my art is bad in that area too ;/

I need to start drawing and coloring more so i can be more active in this forum...

Well Magicman I am not great at explanations...but i'll see if I can answer you.

You use a photograph that you've taken, or that you have found. You first must plan out your image, and decide what background areas you will choose to put a texture into.
For mine I did a wall, so you figure out the angle of the wall, and use a reference thats reasonably on that same angle. It is best to take the photo yourself. In my case I used it from a photo from 12 monkeys.
You then place this same texture onto your area, multiple times, and go into photoshop and change some of the patterns using the cloning tool. For the most part it is this tool that will get your effect.
thats it pretty much, plus fooling around with transparent overlaps of different pieces of the texture your using to create an overall difference of grain along your area.

hope this helps somewhat
it takes alot of time and patience.
Plus blend in some brushstrokes too to make it go with the rest of your image...
you don't want it to look photographic and your other stuff is painted.

Yum! Looking great. Oddly enough, I really like the chair and all the wires connected to it.

Looks great. Good work.
But what happened to his chin. Looks like he lost it. I would try to fix it. Seems to be too much light on the chin.
keep up the good work

thank you for the explanation. i try it as soon as possible. ...a lot of people do their drawings by that way, i think. its a nice method to creat a more complex rendering, without a high number of custom brushes.
