Here is some of my traditional work that I got to scanning. Life drawing and other studies. Some of these are on huge sheets so are awkward to scan but I'll try and get some more done soon.

Sculpture, drawn at the British Museum if I remember correctly.
These are some studies I did looking at the masters at the National gallery.
Potrait of a child - Rubens
Samson and delilah - Rubens
View from my window
Study of a girl sitting I did when I was at school.
If anyone wants to put some of there studies from life here please feel
free to join in. |

Comparing your character portrait thread with this one, I have to say that your work is so much better when it is drawn from life. That's not to say that your un-referenced work is bad, but the reality-based work has a great sense of vitality and real existence in space. I think Jason is right: You would probably go from really good to really great with some serious life study, because these pieces are fantastic. |

Damn that first one has great feeling.
I dig its grooves cause its hip, no what I'm saying?.
Seriously that fifth one is great aswell, you've a nice style. Flowing in places yet patchy.
That child one is most trippy. I see an old lady morphed with a child, this is playing with my head. Also a great piece though!.
Got the skills my friend and stronger yet they shall become...
...I take my leave

I will say this again. listen.
do some very very intensive and long term figure work...get your pieces to look exactly like what you see. do not stop until they do. Im talking at least 12-20 hours with either a model or yourself or still life. a plaster cast will do the same thing. Do not quit working on it until it is completed (and no..I dont mean in one sitting) hehe
when you get one done...let me know. I want to see it.
until you do this you will remain at the plateau you are on now. I know it is a plateau because you have gotten the beginning stages of drawing to a fairly proficient degree. keep pushing your FORMS and SPACE.
INCREASE YOUR VALUE RANGE.
I am hard on you because you are on the right track...keep going...keep working...keep looking.
OBSERVE CLOSER! slow down and truly look. draw what you see...look at what you are drawing more.
great job thus far.

Sacreligious- Thanks. Yeah I always strive to improve with my life studies
in order to improve with my un-referenced stuff.
Dryfire- Thanks mate
Lukiaz- Thanks man, hey you aint on acid are you? Heh, heh :P
Jason - Heh, heh, I've not just started drawing, I've been drawing for many years.
Please show me some examples of what you are suggesting from your own traditional
studies, as I think it would be much more beneficial to see examples to understand
fully what you mean. Or any other traditional studies would be great. Thanks. |

THese are some really nice studies morbid "kyri" guy !! Love'em.
I also think sacrelicious has some good points.....that you should be more aware of using references more. Even though you change the whole feel image, I think it could be very nice if you analyzed a lot of photos. But, like he said, that doesn't mean your un-referenced work is bad |
