Ok, my chick loves Ann Rice's books. She has also always loved just about anything having to do with vampires.
So, as a sort of Halloween present I painted her as a vampire.

Now, with out further adieu......
Here is my fiancee Amy as a vampire.

Here is the refrance photo I used.

Let me know what you think.

Happy Halloween!

Cool. Good likeness,,,,it's weird to see such a happy happy vampire, but it's a good version of her. You ougtha get her to do pose more gothic-ly some time....but I get that it was more of a 'fun' proj. with whatever ref you had around....

Toker, whats up man?-It's FIG here from the Asylum Forum. I would say you could do much better. I think you should have used the photo reference as a 'jump off' point and then drawn her doing something because right now it looks like you slapped a layer in front of your fiancee's photo in Photoshop and started rendering which makes the image comes out looking a little flat. Anyway, you know I'm a big fan of your work so don't take offense to my opinion. By the way, you have great taste in women, your finacee is a knockout! Later man.

Thanx for the comments guys.

Fig~ If you question the athenticity of my work, go to my web site.
I have a tutorials page there that shows step by step how I paint.

As far a enlargements go.....She is wearing a corset top in my painting, so I had to ajust some things. But trust me, I don't need to help her out in that department.

Take it easy and thanks for the comments.

Toker, I dont question the autnenticity of your work whatsoever, I simply told you what it looked like to me but I know for a fact that you don't take the cheap route. I have already gone to your site and love your art, especially those done with linework. Later man.

I first saw your HP because i red in another thread first. There i saw this Pic without any discription and thought it was not as good...
...but now, the smiling just have to be there!

But i dont like the ONLY black and white and red, so if the hair would be a darkbrown, if the skin would look pale but not withour any colour...

And Yep, i don't like the background too...

Yeah that's exactly what he did. If you match up the photo and the finished paint-over, you'll notice how exact they are. He know's that people around here think lowly of people that do that so he goes and makes a tutorial and puts a sketch in there to make it seem that he really draws this stuff. Lets see some freehand stuff Cyber. You have excellent PS skills but c'mon stop fooling these people into believing you actually painted this stuff. If you're that good show us somethin you created all by your lonesome with no paint over.

So, thank you for the complement ya dumb basterd.

Great stuff Cyber. I like the picture as well as pretty much everything else that I've seen of yours between your site, ebonykeep and polykarbon. The only thing that irks me about this picture is how gray she looks. Pale is good, but she lack any sign of skin tone whatsoever. I also noticed that the ears are very defined and the shading on the outside of the right arm could be worked on, but other than than, good stuff.

The 1st signs of guilt are verbal assaults and insults...I'll take em but what you need to do is get some talent and stop foolin people....you can call me all the names in the world but they won't help you pull the wool over my eyes...I hope you don't actually get a job where you're required to think up somethin on your own cause dude you'd be fucked. I hope all goes well with your hoaxed talent.

Thanx for the comments crimsonshadow.

Here is the updated painting-

I messed around with some shadows, on her face and jaw line mostly. I added some redish lighting on her skin to bring her together with the background more. I worked on her hair a little more. I fixed her ears and added ear rings to them. Finally, I added a new background.

Let me know what you think.

Take it easy,

You can say whatever you want chip, but only one thing seems apparent to me........and that's that you're jealous of my skill.

Please, go be a hater somewhere else.
I don't have time for your bullshit.

Hey..

Cool image. A few things jump out at me, though. The image as a whole is looking pretty flat. Especially her right arm (our left) looks virtually two-dimensional. A lot of different places are lacking some hard edges to help bring this together. The glass for example looks like it is made of fluff, it doesn't have any edges. Also, the red light you brought into her arm is inconsistent with the first lightsource you determined. In fact, I see 3 different light sources all affecting different areas of her body.

Like I said, it is a cool image and I certainly don't discredit your talent, but I thought you might be looking for some constructive feedback in combination with the "h0lY sh1T d00d tHAt R0X!" comments.

Cyber: I must admit Ive really noticed improvement in your work since I first saw your work. My only crit for this picture is that the backround is too sharp for the colouring on her body... try blurring up the background a bit.. I think that would make her really stand out quite a bit.

Good luck, I hope she likes it.

Frosted Flame~ Yes I am, thank you.

JabberWocky~ That's a good (Rather odd) suggestion, I'll try that.

Awetopsy~ That's not a bad idea either.

Everyone~ Thank you for the crits and the comments. I'll try working on your suggestions and see what I come up with.

Thanks again,

I'm not trying to discredit your abilities, and I don't want you to get offended or anything, I'm just being constructive... But you should really try something without clinging to a photo the whole time. The last 2 pictures I've seen you do match up exactly with the photos, and tracing really won't help you much at all. I know you're modifying the pictures quite a bit, but I think you'd benefit much more starting from scratch and learning the basics rather than copying them. Just a little advice, please don't take it the wrong way...

No offence taken.
The thing is.....THIS PIECE IS FOR MY GIRL AND IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE HER.

Besides that, I'm going for an "Olivia" type look to my work, I'll be using photo ref for all the woman I paint. Good news is I'll only be using my own models, no more celebrity paintings. (Unless one commissions me. )
I want to work as a pin-up artist in the industry. I'm not looking to become a fantasy or sci-fi artist. Plus, I figure by focusing on one style I have more of a chance of perfecting it. Thus, more of a chance of being successful in the art world.
My favoret artist are pin-up artist, the art that inspires me is pin-up art.
So, I'll be focusing on pin-up art.
From Vargas to Sorayama, most great pin-up artists that I know of use photo ref for almost all of there paintings.
Another little known fact...Olivia does some photo tracing of key features in almost all of her paintings. I don't trace and Olivia does. I think we would all agree that my work is no better than Olivia's because I don't trace. As a matter of fact her work is much better than mine and I don't think that's because she traces.
It's because she has a great style. And, I want a great pin-up style too. That's what I'm working on and that's the type of art you'll se coming from me in the future.

So in conclusion, I won't stop using photo ref and thanx for the comments.

Take it easy all,
CT2001

yeah, keep it up man. the key is in fact having your own models and taking your own photos, like you said, which is what fallen does i think (even though people here gave him grief a while back - which was horrible to watch). that and getting a style down. i agree that using airbrushed porn photos is not the best route at all to take though, even this pic cuz its a shitty photo (no offence). if you have a camera youre half way there cuz in my experience girls will pose for you out of instinct, i think its genetic. anyways, keep it up man, you have skill, you just need to focus it, which you seem to be doing.

Hey Cyber-
Just one thing... you might want to try something with the bangs. I know that's how they look in the pic, but she looks wrong with bangs and dark hair and fair skin ( I can't have bangs because it looks odd -=FYI=- I'm fair skinned dark hair so ibangs looks odd on me). Try the salma hajek look. Real long bangs or no bangs and parted down the middle. (advice from a class buddy in my art class.)
