[edit: This is the one everyone seems to like least so I definitely need to add the links to the others here. ;D Hazy and Wolf.]
There are 3 total and I'm putting them in separate threads because... well, for one thing they are separate images/tuts and for another I don't want to overwhelm any 56ker's with too many pictures at once.
This is one of my mouse pics so there definitely parts about it that are super duper crappy, but I still kinda like how it turned out.
Click the ^^^ under each picture for a larger view:
Step 1 - Scanned in initial sketch of chick, traced her out with polygonal lasso tool:
^^^
Step 2 - Gave the poor lass and face and decided to go with a first-person effect, added the hands with polygonal lasso tool:
^^^
Step 3 - Obviously didn't want the hands the same, so I changed one... I was holding up my hands while I did this, hehe... umm well... not both of course =)
^^^
Step 4 - Starting to block in areas of color:
^^^
Step 5 - Knock out the black lines and start to deal with shadows/highlights:
^^^
Step 6 - Other hand:
^^^
Step 7 - Starting on the gals face:

Step 8 - Wheee... crazy evil sorcoress hair!
^^^
Step 9 - Softened/smoothed the hair... not that you can tell in these tiny images ^_^
^^^
Step 10 - Colored the hand and fancied up the mystical spell thingy:
^^^
Step 11 - Adding in some basic lumpy legs so she doesn't fall over, also some more freaky mystical stuff:
^^^
Step 12 - Smoothing up the legs:
^^^
Step 13 - Other leg, tummy and some otherslight refinements:
^^^
Step 14 - Gave her a torso/neck, added some more color and floof to the misty stuff:

On the right hand, the hand/fingers rotated left, but the whole thumb section didn't. Thanks for posting the tut ^_^ |

i think i know what he's pointing out. The RIght hand of the person who is holding the blue ballin the first person perspective is a little off. the fingers and most of the hand are rotated counterclockwise, when the thumb and the meaty part of the hand that controls it isnt, so it looks a tad funky.

Ok, I think I see that now. Gah, my anatomy really sucks =) I think perhaps eliminating the crease in the palm (next to the thumb) might help the problem?
Either way it was really hard to do because I had to look at my hand, remember it, jiggle the mouse around a bit, look at my hand, remember it, jiggle the mouse around a bit... It was much easier to do the left hand because I could look and work at the same time, hehe :> |

Just hold up your left hand and mirror it? Ack, just tried it no that would be too annoying. Well the easiest way to fix it in my opinion would be to one eliminate that crease you mentioned and then just quirk it to the left a little bit. At least, that is how it looks looking at my hands. Also think that you have that crease in the middle of the hand a bit too well defined but I'm none too good with lightsources at the moment so maybe it really should look like that. Still, really cool tutorial, liked looking at how you work! I think I don't use the lasso tool enough is my problem ... >_< |

I think the idea behind this picture is really cool. I just think that it needs some more contrast.
I just drew over your picture really quick with some notes. I think that your anatomy i really good you just need to broaden the shoulders a little and just stretch out the top half of her a little bit. The hands are really well done but with the harsh lighting our going to get very dark shadows, maybe not as dark as mine but you get the idea. I see you have hidden her right hand behind her thigh so why not just block out the hands and then you don't have to worry about it. I remember spoongedemon once did a tutorial thing where he talked about how some people draw more then they have to like by putting details in the shadows. Maybe I'm wrong about everything I don't know.

Gothic Gerbil - Thanks for your comments. About the lasso tool, I tend to use that whenever I'm doing mouse work. My hand is -very- unsteady and I find that clicking on point at a time makes it much easier on me. Plus once I have a selection I can add to/take away from it really easily
Eric - Thanks for the overpaint, but I seriously doubt I will ever ever touch this piece again. It's quite old and I've moved on to other things.
And yup... you caught me on hiding the hands... hehe... I hid the feet too. Muhahaha |

Well... this was concept art for a game I was working on. Originally you would walk around with an orb in each hand, either that or you would hold an energy source in one hand and cast the spell with the other.
The original drawing was supposed to illustrate that but the concept changed to just one orb =) |

I saw this pic on your web site this summer and loved it then... I think it's really awsome!
One question though. In your scan in you had her holding a ball infront of her... where'd it go? |
