Get an Intuos, 6 x 8. Pricewatch has them for 260 bucks. It comes with the pen and Painter.
Graphires are basically just as good as an Intuos, they just have less resolution (lines per inch detect where the pen is; still much more than any mouse, including optical), no pen-tilt detection, less pressure sensitivity (512 levels is a lot, however) and smaller size (they only come in 4 x 5, slightly bigger than an index card.). They cost about 79 bucks at Pricewatch. Keep in mind that you can still do nice stuff with a Graphire (Socar's pictures, for example), but you'll probably end up upgrading your tablet to an Intuos if you're a serious artist.
In short, an Intuos will run you 150 bucks minimum (for a 4 x 5), and is what you'll use as a professional.
A Graphire is just fine for talented screwing around, however, and is really affordable. It comes with Painter classic, too. [/edit]

thanks, impaler
i'll have a look around here for that Intuos
4 by 5 - if that pricewatch site is an american one (which i think it is) then importing from america is going to be a tad pricey at the mo (we're looking at at least double the price, not including p&h - the australian dollar is poor :/ )
anyway, at least i know what to look for.
Cheers |

whoops, almost forgot:
is there any real advantage in getting a bigger tablet, or is it kind of a 'penis extension' thing - "my tablets bigger than yours - im more manly" or something like that |

In USA, they cost $100. It's a Graphire. They only make one size graphire. 4x5
How old? I got it in 2000, don't know which month though. So it's about one year old. I have NO clue how much it would be to ship it there man. Sorry, I'm not much help. But, that's all I know. Look around, let me know what you come up with. [email protected]
Good luck!!! |
