Oohhhhh man, classic games. Doom I/II for sure, Wolfenstein for sure (I remember playing it on a smaller screen since my 386DX was sorta slow), Catacomb Abyss, commander keen, and all those kinds of shareware games they sold on disks at the convinience store!
Console wise, I loved the original ICE HOCKEY for nintendo where you could choose between a fat, skinny, and a medium build player, and each one had different attributes to their gameplay. Soo fun. Duck hunt was amazing too.
But I remember 2 games the most. They are for Atari. Maybe someone can help me out with their names. I think one was called Moon Base or Moon Patrol, where you were a tank on the moon, and it was a side scrolling game (Going from left to right) where you jumped over little ditches and stuff. The other game, I never knew what it was called, i just called it "bang bang" and my brother would pop in the game for me to play. it was a top down view of mazes and stuff, and you were a stick figure. You walked around picking up certain items like giant keys. Kinda like an indy game. ANyone know what im talking about? Ahhhhh, the memories. |

All the time that I spent.......ever wonder what your life would be like today if you'd never touched a game and rather used that time towards a skill or hobby? Thats easy to say now but at the time I still remember clearly looking forward to playing "THAT NEW GAME" more than anything.
If I had to do it all over again, I think I would DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. For better or worse.
C64 - Airborn Ranger and The Last Ninja!
PC- Eye of the Beholder2, Wolfenstine (while listening to Nirvana blasting through ear phones) That band and that game are inseperable in my mind.
Also on a MAJOR uncool note, hehehe: I used to play the original XCOM with a bunch of friends. We would have like nine troopers and we would each pick 3 or them and name them after classmates or people we hated, then we'd go on missions and each take turns controlling the troopers that we named. Hell of a lot of fun, esp mistakes with grenades. Of course well, my childhood was errrr........rather low key... |

Yeah Blitz! I agree, consoles were great.
For me, the SNES was and still is the greatest console ever. (N64 disappointment, playstation didn't impress me either)
I just had so much fun playing SNES. Even the NES was great.
All the super mario games
Super Metroid
Zelda 1 (NES)
Zelda 3 (SNES)
SECRET OF MANA (OMG THIS IS THE GREATEST)
Donkey Kong Country.
Super Mario Kart
Super Punchout
There were tonnes more but I can't remember all the great games. The SNES is the best console ever!!!!!
Gimme 16 bit graphics anyday. |

I agree. Consoles rock.
I adored the megaman games - especially
megaman X on SNES. Muchly played. Also, secret of mana was one of the best roleplaying games i have played.
FF7, FF8, FF9 - all fantasmic.
It seems that, with a lot of the newer games,
gameplay has been neglected in favour of squeeky-clean graphics and big effects. Not a good state of affairs. |

Super Shinobi
Outrun
Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle)
Final Fight
Golden Axe
Mercs
Super Castlevania
Wonderboy in Monsterland
Carrier Air Wing
Super Mario World
2d games especially pre-32bit era were and still are the best. Seems like there's alot less character in games, the majority seem to be about flashy graphics and a lack of any depth nowadays.
Take Chronotrigger, Super Castlevania or Mercs, tons of atmosphere, charm and most importantly gameplay and not a polygon in sight. |

I'm with Blitz on this one.......I own
a Genesis,Super Nes,Nes,Dreamcast, and Playstation......and my fave would be the original Nintendo.......Games on that system were cheesy but they were harder to beat than the ones nowadays.....no tip-books or codes up the ass....(I know there were some but not like now) I still can't beat Bionic Commando or Strider......
and about the Dreamcast.....it kicks playstation 2 ass right now...period |

Woohoo
Long live the good old A500.
Rainbow Islands (or Bubble Bobble & Great Gianna Sisters if your older
Newzeland Story
Arma-Geddon (Pygnosis)
The Killing Game Show (Pygnosis)
Bards Tale (EA - When they made good games)
Corporation
Syndicate
Dungeon Master (FLT)
International Karate +
Frontier Elite (Number One Time consumer!)
Midwinter
Speedball 2
Gnome Ranger, Zork, Corruption....
Oh, long live my good old Amstrad CPC 464 too =]
Dethstalker
Werewolves in London =]
Dizzy Saga
I'd better stop, too many good classics to list.
Any one of these games could put anything on the market today to shame for playability.

You could probably order full throttle from the lucasarts website. Though, it would most likely come in one of those bundle packs... that game is worth the money. |

I remember my first game comes with my first 486 computer: the original Dune. People said that Dune 2 is extremely innovative, but I'd have to disagree. Dune1's storyline is based on the movie, it's basically a REAL-TIME TACTICAL/GRAPHIC ADVENTURE.. It has resource management but you'd have to fly around in your plane to give each tribe orders, that is until you are given the power to communicate with others through your mind.
Dune 2, Dune 2000, and Emperors of Dune aren't bad, but Dune 1 is still my favorite. |
