when i first saw the pic i thought "is meatsack posting under yet another name?"
but then I scrolled down and saw the dragon.
the castle is more than just 'close' in my opinion (colors, compo, elements all the same). |

I think the problem is this - Lets say you've worked on something and youve gone through "development stages" and arrived at lets say, a color scheme, and a composition. The colors in this one look almost like they were sampled.
Now you see someone elses work - and its the same colors basically, and some element is VERY similar. Then it is annoying , you think "why the hell should anyone take some element of my work and reproduce it" . They havent had to go thorough the same process, they are if you like, taking a shortcut.
In My opinion there is alot about Dealers pic which is original enough that a few alterations (mainly to the color) would make it just fine. I love the medieval graphic idea, and using it as part of a "design".
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery after all, and I bet thats been said before!

Death Dealer: Very nice work. Its wonderful to see something as refined and publish worthy as this. I would love to see the dragon done sans arms. They are an elegant idea but take away from the dragon as being a 'sinister' character in my opinion. I know very little of dragon lore but the fire breathing kind have always struck me as having a great deal more use for cluching, tearing TALONS then for dainty digits. I am also a fan of large wing spans. This being said its refreshing to see someone with a new take on things. 'WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T GIVE THE PUBLIC A RUN-OF-THE-MILL FANTASY DRAGON' 'tis been done to death.

Actually, it's more than just the colour scheme that makes this a rip-off. Although the middleground castle has been modified enough to look different (although to me it looks like a combination of two of spooge's pics) the background buildings to the right and left of the tower are *exactly* the same as the one spooge posted in this thread.
This isn't a matter of someone being inspired by someone else's picture, which we've all done. There is actually some of Craig's material embedded into this picture, and I would have a major problem with that if it were mine. |

Well Well Well...
As always thanks to the people with good comments towards me, as to the negative comments I really care less.
There is a big difference from down right mean and constructive criticism, and ill leave it at that.
like I said before and ill say it again: I am influenced by meat sack he really inspired me. So do lots of other artists.
I'm sure meat sack was influenced by the photographs he uses to create his art,
:YES HE USES PHOTOGRAPHS: and that's not intended to be a negative comment towards meat sack, I Like how he paints with photographs. |

I dunno, maybe it's a flaw of the visual medium. When you borrow with literature you can at least put side notes. However, I think you are talented enough to create your own castle structure. Just as Craig did when he made his piece. What would you say if found 2 books with 3 chapters that are CLOSE to word for word? I think it's ok to copy someone to learn but not to benifit your own career. Which is why he asked you to remove. That's my 2 cents anyhow. |

Wow some people think they have the copyright to, burning castles, dragons and yellow.
By the way how do you paint a burning castle without using Yellow? |

Hey man it's not my work. I'm interested in constantly improving. Which can be accomplished by studying others work. I know an artists that buys famous artists work like Dalhi, Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and others, and litteraly attaches their work to his in his paintings. I think it's acceptable as a statement. We do have that freedom. Just don't try to pass yourself off as some creative bad ass when you can't come up with your own concept for castle. Suck it up and move on. Many more canvasses to fill. |

well, aside from the pointless arguing i do have some constructive advise for you. You see to the lower right how your castle structure fades into the flames. The idea is that they don't have to be being consumed by flame, but that they are recieding into the colors behind them. It's a funny thing about airial perspective. This is just a suggestion by the way and man, you know you can paint. Let's quit arguing and try to improve... At the top of your castle with the roof being blow off you might have some pieces of that torn roof recieded into the flame as it wrapps around the tower. Relax man, Your skills are there. |
