I disagree. I purposely take photos of models for every single painting I do. I'm sure you've seen some of the slander I've had to endure in here because of it. I work pretty much the exact same pose. That's one of the reasons i take the pic in the first place. That and lighting (which I can never seem to get right but thats beside the point

)

Anyway, cybertoker even did way more pre-sketching than I do so I give him credit for his piece as artwork.

Cybertoker, that's a well done image, both the drawing and the painting. The shoulder/back needs some more work, and maybe the upper lip and chin, and ankles could do with a touch more defining maybe (I'm guessing a bit what the original image looked like), but I really love the hand/arm, legs/butt, the hair and the background.

I think you mentioned somewhere you welcomed other attempts, here's a 3d pinup I did, well it's not that pinuppy but I do have a nude version too, just thought I wouldn't take any chances with that.

I painted the bra and panties on. I know the anatomy needs work, but it's very hard to control when you're trying for a fully animatable model, that can be posed in any pose and still look ok. I didn't want to retouch it in 2d too much.

Hey, no problem, cybertoker. I feel your pain. I got totally blasted at school for a recent oil painting, myself. I haven't got it photographed, so I can't show you, but it was a painting of a girl sitting on a grassy slope, looking down and away from the viewer, with her hair obscuring her face.

The problem? Well, I always paint from a model when I'm doing the human figure, because I just can't get it as believable straight out of my head. The model who sat for me was 21, but a little plump and quite small-chested. A lovely lady. Well, the class didn't see a lovely lady--they saw a small chest, and assumed it was a painting of a nude child.

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY! (Well, that was what they called it, anyway.) And after that, the painting was judged ONLY on how much the figure resembled/didn't resemble a child, despite the full (adult) hips, and utterly unchildlike figure.

I think that although this picture may have some associations with pornography, that decision was already made when you started painting. To alter that now would be to scrap it, start over, and paint something else. No point in critiquing the content now. Besides, it seemed to me that you were probably looking for technical critique, anyway.

[EDIT] - Besides, I LIKE some pornography. Not the really blatant, spread-eagle, Hustler-type stuff, granted.... But I have nothing against porn in general, as long as it doesn't exploit the unwilling.

and this pic simply scares me. nothing is gonna change that. if i was able to draw better than him would that make my opinion more valid? does this picture scare me any less because i can't?

you people deal with negative stuff so horribly, it's really saddening. i mean you got the whole forum of people sucking each others dicks over your art, once someone says something blows you get so damn mad. deal with it

I'VE COMPLETELY REDONE THE FACE AND I'VE CORRECTED SOME LIGHTING ISSUES.

I like it a lot better, tell me what you all think.

What's pissing us off Bob the Newt is not your dislike of the image, it's your abuse of the image. It's one thing to say- the lighting is off, she's not pretty in my eyes but good technique otherwise. mmmm... Wonder if anyone said that about Olivia? Soroyama? Didn't think so. And I'm sorry, if you can't draw at all, you got no right crit. You ain't got a creative bone in your body judging by your comments. Oh and Olivia also did her paintings from photos that she took so does Soroyama and Julie Bell and Boris Velejo. And if you took the drawing a really good artist did and the photo he/she used as ref you'd see a near exact copy. It's what you get for being good. When you don't have an exact copy it's called surrealism not realism.

Anyways, had to put my 2 cents in. The image is good. The shading on the hand awesome. I have a horrible time doing hands. The buttox DOES seem strange. Seems to need more flattening on the edge to show she's got her butt on the stage. The background is flawless. And her hair is well done as well. Blondes are a bitch to do.

I like your repaint of the face. However you, in one of your posts, said that: you "wanted her to have a little bit of that "used up" look to her." I think your original painting achieves that 'used up' look best.

I also really like that background. Immediately, it conjured up the atmosphere of a strip club. Well done.

The chick that I originaly used for this pic was NOT a playmate. She was a striper from the girls of the badda-bing. The "badda-bing" is a strip-club owned by one of the cats in the show "The Sapronos". So she is a striper and not a playmate.

I changed the look of her face to go with the popular vote this time. (I won't always.)
More people like a good looking chick in a pin-up and not the used up chick.(But the old striper had a great body and was in the pose I liked. So I just added a younger face to make her even more stuning.) But thanx for the input.

Well, I started reading through all the comments... but then I gave up. Such a lot of ... crap.

I've seen so many pictures posted in this forum showing off by far more than this one, without getting this kind of... well... you know.

At any rate, enough about that. It's a very well rendered image. I especially, much like everyone else, it seems, like her hand =) I also like the black outlining... it adds a little something to the picture.

Now, I'm going to offer one little criticism - ignore it at your leisure =) I think I know what's looking odd with her face (though the update is SO much better). Her nose is very long. I think that if you moved her eyes and eyebrows down you would get a better proportioned face. On the other hand, I can't see the reason to why she would have to look perfect - not every model/stripper has a perfect face. 'twas just what I saw, straight off, that could have been improved.

As I said, no need to listen to me =) Great work.

(Oh, and the other pinups are wonderful as well!)

I don't see the harm. Cybertoker himself joined in. A healthy debate on the semantics of "porn" should be welcome anywhere.
