...comments are welcome - even those just saying this is boring!
It actually had a character in it but I disliked the pose and how the shading turned out, though I did do some nice flaming hair (in my eyes anyway)... So I went for a more graphic approach. For better or worse, I don't know! I'll post the earlier step if anyone wants to see it.

Yea yea post an earlier sketch. I'd like to see it. Hmm... somehow I like this a lot. It has a neat style -- the shading shows some serious skill, and the slight coloration in the shade adds a nice effect. I think it would be better if you took out those wispy things on the sides. |

hiaya Nova. First time a gal has made a reply to one of my threads! (I think!)
Thanks for the comment. Here's is an earlier version with the character in it. I probably could fix most of the problems with anatomy and shading, but I just got so fed up with the image, that if I wanted to finish it I knew I had to do something very drastic. So the skull was inserted instead of the char. I like the flaming hair or whatever it is, but the fact that it doesn't light the rest of the scene was something that had to be changed too. *sigh!* Glad I got rid of that problem also...
You're right about the 'wispy' things. But somehow they fill out that big empty space - which is their purpose... eh-heh!

Whoah. I much prefer the second one!
Don't get me wrong, the skull is great, I love it... but the second picture is fantastic! For some reason, I really like the guy's nose... |

I also like the second one much more. I'd continue on that. The skull looks good too but is bit too ordinary as a subject matter. I actually really like how you've rendered the body so far. Agree with Nova on the smoke issue. Maybe you could position the trails differently, in front and behind the figure...
