Better late than never - just had to quit lurking and join in. Spent about 20 minutes. Yes I did read the notes, though it was some time ago. I'm rusty, missed on the likeness... must practise more.

Well it seems my picture might well drown in the sea of overly cool pictures here, but what the heck. Great work guys, some amazing work here.

This is my first photrealistic pic ever, I'm pretty pleased with it, I hope you like it.

And Spooge Demon: THANK YOU! This is a really great exercise that I've learned a lot from. Great job

It seems that it only shows up sometimes . But you can see it here.

UPDATE: Worked a bit more on it...

Joachim I love yours! This is exactly what spooge was talking about; getting the basic forms down in as few brush strokes as possible. I still have to get the hang of that; when I think about it there are a lot of things I have get the hang of

I tried to resist. But now you did it. I had to do one too.

I guess it's way too detailed. But once started i couldn't stop and had to add more and more. Anyhow I learned a LOT doing this.

Thank you spooge!!

[Edit: Hmm, seems like my server is down again. Hope this will show up sometime soon.]

Hi all. I've been lurking here for about a week now. A buddy (jerO) let me know about the forum. Thanks again man! This is way better than sliced bread! It's gotten my creative juices flowing again.

It's been years since I've done any real art (aside from 3d stuff). Even sketching. So, here comes this post by spooge (whose work I've admired for a long time), and I figured I'd have a go at it.

I know I *COMPLETELY* missed the point of the exercise. Maybe it's because this is the first head I've ever tried to draw/paint. Or maybe because I just got my wacom a day ago. Or maybe because I haven't done anything in forever. Or maybe cause I can't follow directions. Gonna try very hard with the next ones to work at actually doing what I'm supposed to.

Anyhow. /me long winded. This is about 7 or 8 hours worth of work after about 3 hours of getting used to the wacom. Comments and crits are more than welcome.

The full size version is available here And below is a progression of work:

Well, shrug. I'm new to this board, although I already checked it out a few times. Anyways, I had a try at this as well, though it's not nearly as good as most of the posted ones here.

Does anyone know where I can find more good b/w pictures for this exercise? The CORBIS logo kinda annoys me

eww I suck

ok first one:

I did this one and in the end I felt like all I did was copy the picture. Maybe I just stop concetrating. I wasn't happy at the end.

second one:

I only saved one step because I completely forgot I was saving steps. This one I kinda felt like all I did was copy as well. I was trying to think how I can make it really simple, but yet I still have the feeling like it's just a copy only unfinished. And my values feel screwed.

maybe someone has tips?

S4SB: hey, i know i'm joining late, but i noticed your comment about drawing how it should be instead of what's actually there... don't worry, you're not alone, a lot of us do that, or used to, and i think the tendency still remains even among those who have been drawing or painting for quite a while, at least sometimes... anyways, i'd recommend a great book (it was required reading for my visual literacy course, but it was what really got me into drawing and stuff... it helped a lot, too...):

The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards

it really gets right down to the basics, but don't shun it just because of that... it's truly an amazing book, and i'm sure many people on this forum will agree...

well, that's my 2 cents, i'm gonna go try out these exercises...

cheers,
teck

TekK : Thanks. I will definetly check it out. I heard of it before. I know basics are important... but they get fatiguing. I try and work myself through it. Thanks
