Has anyone ever created artwork for a company that owns everything you make? In other words I'm designing logos and web pages, but I can't put them in my portfolio, because once its made it doesn't belong to me. Any ideas on what I can do?

Uuhh... that's quite a load of BS If your company actually legally owns all your (business) creations then it's time to find a new employer

I work for a "government organization" type. If that makes sense. I was hired on to do something else and over time I have ended up becoming a graphics developer. However, I signed a contract that gives them ownership of anything I make for and with their assets. I'm getting great experience and I get to do what I want. The problem is if I decide to go somewhere else I wont have anything to show. I have no prior industry experience graphic wise.

Well, at least it's not the type of government agency you can't leave... Not alive, anyway.

I called your company today chapel...
They said they did not know any Brian Reber,
have no affilliation whatsoever with any Mr. Reber and did condone nor support any of your actions in any way. They also said that if i called again they'd make sure i would never call a 3rd time.

But seriously, i'd say its time to have a talk with your employer for a new contract. Besides, even when they do legally own your work, you can still *refer* to it in a portfolio.

You found the number??? Its not like a top secret government agency. I'd just prefer not to use their name.

Nova, jesus, that's BS as well. I've made designs for Sony europe, numerous international banks and big companies, ofcourse they own the rights to it all, but that doesnt mean i cant display screenshots or parts of it in a (digital) portfolio!

If that's your employers attitude, which by the way is not exactly something you should respect, then it's time to have a good talk with them (or just plain laugh at them).

I just started designing for them. I don't want to leave yet. Any program I want the get it for me. Any books I want they get it for me. Any class I want to take they send me. I was just wondering what to do with my portfolio that I build here.
