Ok I have been doing these quick paintings for the last week (since I got my wacom) and I have been setting the timer for 5-7 minutes to do them. I don't know if this is good or bad but I have just been trying to get the basics down fast before I get over my head in detail. (is this a good thing for someone just starting? or should I spend more time on one peice?) All of them were done with reference from Corbis.com (thanks spooge =D) I didnt post reference cause I didnt want to upload but I didnt think it was that important.

Thanks for looking and tips and critiques would be very helpful. Even though they are rough...

OH and I uploaded a list of almost all of the ideas from the 500 paintings thread. I missed a few peoples ideas but got most of them. if you want it it is here...500 paintings

Thanks everyone!

Great excercise.

You'll learn to place important values, shapes and compositional elements becuase of the time restrictions. You will leran 'economy of line' from having to work fast and vigourously. Very good idea. You should be noticing small improvements all the time.

Quick crit:

1. Background, at the top looks confusing. Shrubs and bushes along river bank are too straight in their profile. Values are ok. The aerial prespective seems to be reasonably well thought out.

2. Mountains are too blue. Remeber Aerial perspective. the ground below it and around the steeple are too blue aswell. Blue bits in the foreground, I can't make out what they are supposed to be. Steeple lighting is very good. Especially on the roof. Clouds in the distance, the colour you used there is very good.

3. Ground looks a bit too pinkish. Trees are too scrawny. Trees seem to float above the ground. The mountains are too sharp in some places. (or maybe not? I dunno) The atmosphere is good. You can feel the heat of the place and understand its arid climate.

Overall pretty good for 5-7 minutes each.
