just playing around. more Justin Sweet inspired shtuff=).
I feel there is something missing here. but I'll save the time for something with a more refined concept. the under drawing was extreemly loose. I'm still not any good at making too much up in the painting stage. especialy with stuff like hands which I can't really draw in the first place=p. so it's a bit rough and unrefined. basicaly If I can draw it I can paint it, but if the drawing is a bit off things just don't seem to "paint themselves".

Seems you're getting the style down well. Very loose, colorful and dark. I would suggest defining and filling in the jaw line some, and toning the face down a little, as it's much brighter than the rest (even though it is the focus of the image).

Awesome Rinaldo. I think her hair should be touched up a bit, looks kind of raggedy IMO. Kick ass job.

Great! One thing that jumps out at me (aside from the face as Frost already pointed out) is that there is some weirdness in the waist/hips area. She's thin, but not too thin- but then her hips jut out really far. Other than that, this is superb.

Damn Rin, I step away for a moment, and then you produce something like this. Whew, that is such a sweet painting. The concept is great, and I love all of the ornamentation, looks awsome. Keep up this incredible work.

thanks everyone, jeez threads go to second page real quick these days^_^

Frost-hey there=) yeah there's a bit too much difference between the body and face. I would be inclined to bring everything else up tho becuase the image is pretty dark to begin with. I wanted the face to stand out the most.

Dives-=)

Blitz=) thx dude, hehe Marvel would be the sort to sue me as well^_^

Akolyte-hehe well I'm not sure if it's even hair, some sort of head dress, it was a scribble to start with. I need to draw in more detail.=)

sacrelicious-to me the hip is way off. I'm still learning a lot of anatomy. but I thought that it would probably pass as ok (not a good frame of mind^_^). It's not so much the immediate size difference but the shape is wrong to my eyes.

Skeezer-Yo, long time no chat. thanks man=)

jasonN-thanks

Bg- I'm glad to hear you say that=)

TheMilkMan=)

r3koil=)

janne-Thanks=)

Hiya. That's a really cool picture. I am ever in awe of your character drawing skills (despite whatever anatomy flaws may creep up here and there. )

The biggest thing you could improve, in my opinion, is the background - specifically, it has very little contrast with the character, which makes everything seem to blend in and get real muddy. Err, well, obviously that was your intent farther down, since there's supposed to be dust in front of the character. But higher up, there's a lot of potential to bring out the form in the foreground by changing the adjacent colors in the background.

I did an overpaint. Hope you don't mind. I pay as much attention to perspective as I should have, but I think it gets the point across.

Across her midsection and head, I darkened the background significantly, which should, in theory, bring out her form a bit better. Something else, which shouldn't be readily apparent at first glance (if I did it right, anyway), is that the clouds become much darker around her body. This helps bring out the contrast even further. Also, in lieu of more interesting brush strokes, I added a couple extra layers on "overlay" mode to give the background some texture.

Anyway, hope this helps. (If nothing else, I had a lot of fun doing it. )

Hiya Waylon,

yeah, that looks much better=) It really needed the darker BG becuase the whole image was pretty low contrast. I like the overlay stuff as well. need to get used to doing that sort of thing.
thanks=)

hehe, I just realised how much fun it is to have a paint over and some crits. we seem to be doing not enough of that lately. or maybe it's just me being lazy and not doing it myself, I'll have to make the effort^_^

Heh, yeah, paintovers are fun, both to do and to have done. I'm eternally grateful for the paintover you did of my "Lunar Warrior" pic about a year ago. For once I saw something in one of your pics that I could actually improve upon, so I figured I might as well give it a shot.

I figure I might as well say another word or two about the overlay. A month or two ago I was looking for things to photograph that would work well as architectural texture maps. I was photographing mud, concrete, polished steel, rusty steel... you name it. Then I found the ultimate source of textures: wallpaper. So I went to the local wallpaper store and borrowed one of their scrap books, under the guise of wanting to redecorate my room. I brought the book to the office, scanned each page, and returned it the next day. It's been the greatest texture resource I've ever found.

As for the practical application, overlay mode with a layer mask works wonderfully. I actually used two layers, one for the darker blueish background, one for the orangey dust near the bottom. The blur and smudge tools were also very useful for making the dust seem to recede into the distance, though that was also a function of the blocky brush strokes I had underneath the wallpaper layer.

If you want the PSD file, I can put it online somewhere, though I didn't do anything all that complicated.

heh, yeah I had fun doing that Moon Warrior Paint over^_^ *sigh, those were the days*

I've had a bit of experiance using overlay type stuff from doing comic coluring. I just need more textures an more practice stuffing around with PS. I'll do some digicam stuff soon. wallpaper sounds fun

Cheers=)
