I may be doing some painted comic work with Jan Duursema (the artist on the recent Darth Maul comic book series, and upcoming SW ep. II comic adaptation)
She would provide me with pencils, and I'd paint them up.
Anyway, here is my first crack at painting her pencils...this is Quinlan Vos. (I'm too busy to fill in the tunic details right now.)

...based on a sketch by Jan and aided by indirect photo ref. of my pal Rusty. (The unofficial Quin model) Can't post the sketch though. Enjoy.

[edit: I added some tunic detail after all]

I'm supprised no one has replied to this thread yet, cause I think it looks pretty cool. One crit would be to improve or adjust the alignment of the facial features--mainly I think the lips and chin should be shifted to the right a bit. Good work

Looks cool, but I do agree that there are facial alignment problems. I am curious how the choice to do a painting style over typical comic coloring came about. Too bad the sketch can't be posted, I'd like to see the pencil work.

I've always liked Jan's work, so I thought I'd have a go (with your permission, red leader!).

I have never seen this character before but immediatly thought you could play up the North American indian aspect of it. A Mohican warrior, but with a light sabre...

Anyway, I think the only thing really missing from your job was a light source. It just looked a little flat when I first looked at it. Otherwise, great. Hope the project comes through for you!

Uh... this was a "sketch"...no dynamic lighting so i could see what the guy's suposed to look like.
Thanks for the anatomy crits 'yall... I have to remember to re-draw stuff before painting it...what works in comics bounded by line does not always translate well in paint.

Pretty cool red leader.

Anatomy issues already talked about. Not much to add 'sept maybe add a little contrast to that bad boy.

Hey Redleader, it's Kaare and it's my first post at Sijun. Love the pic. You may want to consider darkening the whites of the eyes and making them smaller. The whites of peoples eyes usually aren't really white at all. Here's what I mean...

I like both versions...but I like visuals better because I think comics are all about dynamic lighting ( LIQUED ) and he used that to portray mood and personality into the pic..good work both of ya
