good post chip. my thoughts exactly. Sometimes, the Bible is taken way too literally.... it should be interpreted, really. |

What the hell -- theological debates? Can a moderator close this thread, or intercede? It's making me sick. =P |

First of all *in Jar-Jar voice*, MISSA BACK!
Second, I am not a Christian, maybe even a little militantly anti-Christian. That said, who thinks it's bad that stneil777 is inspired by the Bible? The Bible is, if nothing else, a collection of stories. Many of them are not only interesting but also part of our public subconscious. I say to stneil777, it's great to be inspired by anything. Keep it up.
Serious, what is this, Russia?!? Why can't the dude paint religious pictures and have a quote in his sig? Are you complainers genuinely offended?
stneil777, maybe you should try drawing the characters on paper first. Or, at the least, render the figures from poser as outlines, and paint them in Photoshop. It may help you learn faster.

I think you did a great job of reworking this one--working much sharper and with a smaller brush seems to help you a lot
The Bible can be translated and rethought so many ways, who are we to say that "ruddy" and "milky white" did not mean skin tone, OR, that it didnt mean character? The translation should probably be up to the artist :)
again, good rework, you're getting better

I did this before the forum went down again, and now I want it off the desktop here.
stneil, using poser is ok if you are really unsure about your drawing, but maybe the first step is to get rid of it entirely, cover it up with other things, as it really screams through almost anything. Just keep it on a layer for ref, or just have it side by side like you did with your Bruce Lee Picture That really would be best, then there is nothing 3-d in your painting at all. This is not a horrible thing, but the two universes are so far apart that you might want to just make them separate from the start.
And start thinking about how you are going to wean yourself from poser. Gotta be done sometime...
The other thing is to resist the temptation to make every form go from very dark to very light. I know that when you put a light on an area it is so much fun that it is easy to overdo it. Gouache highlights on marker renderings have this a lot. Start in the middle, with bigger shapes, and let the thing emerge from the grey. Hold back your darks and your lights until the very end, and you will see that you don't need to make that many highlights.
