ok i was reading and i am pretty sure Samson came of the origonal blood line of the isrealites. Which were white as milk with red hair. Esau was another one. so was david.
Hebrew word for locks does mean ringlets of hair. or we would say dreads. Samson had 7 of them according to scripture. It's no so far off think about it they did not have shapoo and stuff.
Well enough of me talking. The plot of this picture is right after the battle of samson. With a jaw bone of a mule kills 1000 men.
here it is
any comments are welcome. Poser 4 was used and painted over. |

I wouldn't advise using poser for this. You should probably practice drawing a little bit; you would get a better sense of shapes and forms involved, also you'd get a better understanding of anatomy. Some of the colors look strange but then I wouldn't realy know since I'm colorblind. Oh yes, and a little more distinction between the foreground and the background would be nice. Keep at it and you'll be fine. I like the subject-matter btw - very original. |

I have to say that it was alot better than i expected. THe forms are better and over all more belivable. And we all know why. But the only thing i see as a flaw is the coloring
keep at it stneil777 |

Dunno what the last 2 replies were hinting at, but I don't want to start or join in on any religious debate (not my scene)
I do know this though, religious wars and quite a bit of the battles in the bible were hard core, gory and just plain nasty bloodstained vicious affairs. And we ARE talking beat people to death with a jaw bone for talking about my god like that.
(Wasn't aware of the red hair and milky colured skin. Thank you so much for that, Very interesting and nice to have background on your picture.)
Poor Mr. "half a head" in the middle forground is a nice touch for accuracy of the viciousness.
Maybe the figure anatomy could use some 'tweaking', The basis is there though, I don't feel confident speaking about colouring, but it does seem to be the contention in this piece. Maybe an approach would be to colour very basic blocks first and then look at adding to it from there.
Either way I like it.

Uh buddy their skin was nowhere near the color of milk. You see the skin color of Middle Easterners now, well that's the color they were then, it's a hot climate man, how are you gonna have milky skin when the temp averages 110 F in the shade. That's like saying Moses was a white man, before you go misinterpreting the Bible do a little research, OK you mislaed people who don't read the Bible and most importantly you mislead yourself. |

For some profound reason, I don't think the original Israelites were sado-masochistic massacre nomads with milk white skin who apparently beat the shit outta stuff with mule jaws. By the way, that's one big frikkin mule Try a more, umm... natural approach to your subject, not a paganistic ritual depiction. |

well for the person that thought him self so knowledgable in bible.
Here si guess i have to beat you with bible a little bit.
Zion is the daughter of isrealites. Which comes from them Nazerites.
here is the scripture sense you think you know so much.
Lamentations 4:7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:
by the way the her here is Zion a country in case you do not know in bible countries are called her and she and daughters.
Go head read the chapter you will understand.
Oh yeah the pic is updated i fixed up alot of the fuzziness. The backround is supposed to be fuzzy. Like if you look at a photo the backround if distant is fuzzy. if you look at your hand everything in the backround is fuzzy and if you look at the backround with you hand in front of your face, its fuzzy.
Just trying to stay to realizm.
But the guy on the right side looks a bit fuzzy still.

Not to interfere with your little religious debate or anything, but I just thought I'd add that either those chaps are little shortarses, or that was one stonkin' monster of a mule.
I have red hair and milky skin, and let me tell you, I cringe at the very thought of stepping out of my darkened basement in anything even slightly sunnier than a wet weekend. And I'd never be able to do it in a loincloth. All in one body suits and miserable skies; they are the future. |

The bible aside, stneil777 I would have to say that being lectured on reading comprehension by someone like yourself, who seemingly can hardly spell, isn't at all convincing.
Since I posted here I might as well critique: Your pic is very blurry. |

People seem to have much better luck using the paintbrush tool, and using a hard-edged brush (as opposed to a soft one.) It takes a little while to get used to, but it's a MUCH more effective way to draw once you get the hang of it.
As for the size of the brush... that really depends on the size of your picture. In general, start with big brushes, then get smaller and smaller as you add more detail. |

Bible lesson time btw I like that you do read but I've been studying it all my life, you could call me a minister. When it spoke of the Nazarites purer than milk, whiter than snow etc, it's talking about character. Nazarites weren't to cut thier hair or eat meat partake of wine or any of the such therefore, their bodies were pure and their characters clean. Think about it, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt for how many hundred years, and the Bible gives us a description of Moses, a dark man with hair like wool. It's good that you do read though, but you must pray before you do and ask that you may comprehend what you're reading. Remember the Bible is symbolic @ times meaning that every word in it is not to be taken literal, go to Revelations and see what I'm talking about. It speaks of the Dragon and the beast - now I hope you don't think there's gonna be this great big dragon running around gobbling people up or some beast. Read it and try to understand it for its messeges not for the stories, they are there to teach. Whew my bad I just zoned out. -Chip |

Here’s a post I just have to respond too.
First off, Visigoth, I can understand wanting to keep these forums strictly for the discussion of art. But the fact is, stneil777 is trying to be biblically accurate in his art, and therefore, it impossible to critique correctly without discussing “theology”. Technically, this isn’t theology, this is history. Nobody whines when someone informs the artist that the armor on his knight painting isn’t perfectly portrayed with historical accuracy.
Chip_artz, I don’t know if you think its cute, or if your trying to settle a dispute, but what you’re doing really isn’t helpful. Your not a minister of any sort, I’m fairly sure you know precious little about religion, and your website consists of 85% “sExY babes”. Your neither funny nor useful (in this particular situation)
I also find it pathetic that everyone is being so brutally harsh on artwork that really is not that bad. Its obviously a result of the religious ties. Here’s my suggestion for the day: spaz down and don’t respond unless its going to be helpful.
btw, I think this picture is alright. I would suggest softer edges between the different figures, while making certain areas (detail areas, certail folds, etc). An easy way to shade is with the dodge/burn tools. Thats how dhabih shades his awesome drawings. Also, ou might want less contrast between the saturation of certain areas. |

ok here is an update. What i decided to do is use one of the smalling paintbrushes. And istead of using the air brush i used the regular brush. I know i could have done better with a mouse pen but i think i did ok this time. Well at least it is not blurry.
ok i was not going to say this to chip i am sorry guys i just cannot resist.
Chip you are no minister. What a hoot, you say it discribes there charater. DO YOU KNOW what ruddy means. David was ruddy. Esua was ruddy. IN the hebrew this ment red hair white skin. Nothing to do with charater. Study more before you call your self a minister. And if you want to debate we can let me know we can meet in a chat with voice.

I'm liking this alot better. I'm not a fan of the color scheme, however. You do provoke a moody feeling, but I think Samson needs a little more glory. Just the colors in general, in addition to blood everywhere, make him look satanic.
I must say, if you improved this much with every painting, you'll be a master in three years. |

[Gimbal yet again refrains from adding to the fire. Just barely.]
I will say this though, LandoverBaptist rules and I enjoy sexy babes over violent men.
But if I'm going to post something I might as well do a critique: Composition looks good. I like that you didn't place him in the center of the picture. Maybe if you could add a treeline or something between the massacre in the foreground and the natural beauty of the sunset in the background you could get a little more depth to the picture. It might also keep the background from looking like a flat backdrop.
Everyone know those Jesus fish bumper stickers and the retorting Darwin fish bumper stickers, the 'My kid is an honor student at' and the 'my kid beat up your honor student', my dad can beat up your dad' and so on, and so on. It's like people even argue when they aren't talking to eachother. Cracks me up.

What rez are you painting at? That could be the cause of the softness. |

I assume you are meaning DPI as the units? If you are painting at twice the rez you are posting at, that is pretty small and probably is the reason for the softness.
Try to paint at higher than 1000*1000 pixels, at least. You can go higher if you want, and this will give you control to make it soft and hard where you want. |
