Hello. I am a forum lurker. I have been lurking for 8 months now, hiding and watching, enthralled by the skill and talent present. I'm a Graphic designer/Cg Artist and thought perhaps its time for me to start taking an active part in the posting on this forum. To be so would be considered a great privilege.

With that out of the way, I most humbly submit a particle system created in 3d Studio Max. This is a 3D volume, made up of thousands of tiny particles, each dynamic in their movement and life cycle. I am still working on the animation of this cycle, and hope to finish it at a later date.

For some reason the server doesn't seem to like certain direct links. Sometimes it shows and sometimes it doesn't. If you can't see it, please take the time to visit this url. Thank you.

As a painting it's nice, but as an animation it might be great. Welcome

Green,

Thanks for replying. The animation takes forever to render as the particles in the system are incredibly complex, hopefully I'll finish it in the next month or so and be able to show you.

Loki, Frost- Thank you for the kind words. As for the particles, its made through a program called Afterburn (www.afterworks.com) which allows you to in a way paint and manipulate a 3D Texture which the volumes use to determine their movement, feel, and design. So what your seeing is an artists conceptual painting, given the dynamics of smoke and multiplied 45,000 times.

Rampage and Rival: You guys are my heros.

Crossbow

This is great - I love the depth it as, while still being abstract - you must post the animation once you're done !

I'm with loki on this. I don't normally like abstract stuff, but this is pretty damned cool. And I'm defininitely looking forward to seeing the animated version.

Wow... not the sort of particle 'art' I was expecting. Very cool... I'm almost scared to wonder what this thing looks like animated... =)

I took something out of my bathtub that looked like that once. I fun ya, but I like it.

Since you're presenting it as a finished piece, I might object to the composition a bit. I would have framed it a differently, clipping the right edge off by an inch or so. My thinking there is the image would be centered better without that large patch of black to "weigh" it down. Purely a judgement call on my part though.

Thanks for delurking and posting!

oh man, it's like a nightmare! don't get me wrong, picture's great, but i mean if you had it bigger and if you watch a it for 10 minuttes, i bet you'd see some Visions, like snakes or hell or even heaven. Great work Crossbow!
