Haven't you seen those on dogs?
It's to prevent him licking an infected wound somewhere further down his body (oops, I forgot, giraffes have extremely long tounges.... never mind).

he he, its great , whats kinda silly is that it wont stop him from chewing on his paws like a dog one is meant to do because of his huge neck, I guess thats the humour of it. one thing though , the angle of the neck and the angle of the face dont line up and its a very sharp turn, maybe if you re-drew the neck sloping down more.
( I'm so crap at explaining stuff, why do I bother? )
Also the outside of the cone is tad blurry and doesnt look solid.
