Bastard... that'll teach me to say anything "publicly"... j/k

Looks pretty damn cool! I actually sort of drew a bust shot too...

I actually have a awesome Hellboy sketchbook which I've been keeping for a while. It has some incredible sketches by some of the best artists in the business in it. It freakin' rules! Maybe I should scan it...

Crap, I posted and didn't say anything about poopysan's image. What a fool I am.

Poppysan,
It's kindoff small. Could you put it up a little larger.
And its a little dark. I'm not sure if it's my screen, or if that's simply what you intended. For instance, I can barely make out some neck there, but barely. I can't even make out a form.
I don't know the character. But what is the ellipse above his eye?

Nice work. It's far beyond anything I could ever do.

Sweet pic. I love the lighting and the colors you chose. Makes me kinda want to do one to.

Little off topic, but.. I know nothing about Hellboy other than the pictures I have seen. Does anyone recommend a book that I could start on to catch up?

Geeez... only THE best book out there...
But seriously, if you aren't familiar with Mignola, and you have even just an ounce of artistic sensibility within you, you owe it to yourself, god and country to pick up his stuff.

Mignola is a genius. I doubt you will find someone with a better sense of design and composition on the face of the earth.

"Seed of Destruction", is the "first" book. However, otherwise the stories are only loosely chronological.

Check www.hellboy.com for more info.

Thanks Chris. I actually found that website already. I've always liked the look of his stuff.. just never picked up a book. For a long time I just read the standard superhero books, but recently I've been branching out and picking up all kinds of books. I'll try and get this one.

Don't mean to spam this thread. Just wanted to make a quick comment. This may not have anything to do with where you're coming from, just wanted to comment since its something that's close to my heart.

There is nothing wrong with Superhero books. Some of my favorite books are superhero. I'm also leary of people whose "favorites" list reads like an recipe of the obscure. That is, that everything on there is an homage to the non-mainstream. The thought that everything non-mainstream is brilliant is wrong in my opinion. Nevertheless, that is often the attitude I've seen permeate the field. So I guess, what I'm trying to say is that while Hellboy is a bit off the beaten path, that is not the reason it's good.

It's good because Mignola is brilliant.

End of sermon.

I agree with that. I have several opinions on that as well. Drop me a line at [email protected] if you want to chat comics. I'd be interested in talking "shop" sort to speak.

poppysan: Sorry to hijack your thread. Did I tell you that pic rocks? You can have your thread back now.

awesome depiction of Hellboy. It's nice to know I'm not alone out there in my love for Mignola's work. It kinda seems like the horn-stub on the left side should point torwards the veiwer more. All-in-all, I love it.

I've scanned it... but as I was scanning it I thought I'd rather put it on a separate site, than posting each piece separately.

So this might take some time until I get the thing up and running.

(just a quick throw-in)

I'm a big Hellboy fan myself (as some maybe know) and have met then man myself (brag, brag). I agree that he is maybe the most inspirational artist in the comicindustry today. Everyone 'borrows' from his style, and how to seperate shadows and so on... Like KOryh said he also do alot of conceptual stuff. fx. Bram Stokers Dracula and the new Disney movie Atlantis. Do your self a favor and download the trailer for that one. Its nice to see that Disney allowed the Mignola influence to shine bright through the 'Disney-wrap' (tm).

Poppysan - neat. Its a little small and heavy compressed which makes it hard to make out the little details. But is def. Hellboy. Cool.

Here is a few links to Hellboy stuff I've done. You have to follow the links, as I didn't really wanted to steal this thread....
