Hi all,
This is the main character from my short 'Become War', more info at the link below the pic. Just thought I'd post an update.
I'm going for a blend of cartoony and realism as far as the look of the film goes. It's a very difficult line to walk, but I'm enjoying the challenge I've set for myself. This guy is the 3d embodiment of my cartooning style, so that part is working out ok. It's merging this style with more realistic textures, environments and equipment that's the real challenge.
Should have some animation tests, and more images up in the next few days.
Any comments welcome of course.
Thanks,
David 'datter'

looks nice, but i think its too contrasting, lower the contrast levels on the soldier, and i think the light is from the wrong direction? (plus, the shadow of him casted on the environtment is different from the shades casted on himself)
btw, i believe this is a 3d render?

Dude the guy looks retarded, ie his eyes look cross-eyed. I would give him 10 hrs. in vietnam. |

I've been to your website before , i like what i see so far.. nice texturing on these boots- i hope the rest of the textures will match up to the quality set by these.
the biggest problem about this image is, as Godwin said, the lighting. You should use a projected image of soft folliage on your main lightsource ("gobo"), as well as soften the shadows- the light gets diffused as it travels through the tree tops down to the ground, making the shadows all fuzzy.
rendering this image with Brazil's skylight (no gi for fast renders) could look even better. |

Hey that's damned good!
I'm very glad to hear my tutorial helped you out, check back again in the future as I'll likely be adding more sometime.
Also, I just a quick note to say I've added a mailing list subscription to the main page at http://www.davidtitusproductions.com/bw. If anyone wants to be notified when there are any (major) production or site updates to the film just add your name to the list.
Thanks,
