a hand thats probably close to finished (crits and comments appreciated tho!)
...and a clown...
hmmm i started this two days ago, the aim* was a depressed looking clown with a hidden* dark...uh... im having trouble explaining it, what i ended up with tho was looks like something off the back of a collectors plate. the texture work is very rough, ive all but given up on it, once i realised its comming out all wrong, any advice or opinions on this image are especially appreciated. (ie: how to make it look less corny)

your models are quite good and have lots of potential. The texture work is also good, except for the hat which is a black hole. Anyway, I think if you really want to give it that dark moody feel your after, all you have to do is just change the lighting and atmosphere a bit, try and dirty the image. Use more saturated cool colors. Right now the lighting is just a plain spotlight, this would be the kind of lighting you would see in advertising to bring out the bright diffused colors in a product, hence the cheesy collectors plate look.
Anyway, this is only my two cents, hope it helps |

thanks nukee, i think your right about the lighting, its something i always struggle with. i tried the red light under the face creepy stephen king bit, but it was too much!
james : its not bingo, its weary willie! the worlds most famous clown! the second screwiest clown in the world (the first being johnwayne gacy) in the twenties weary willi's creator liked to make love to his wife, dressed up as weary willie! in the eighties, the creators grandson played the part - he used to murder his homosexual lovers with over sized hammers whilst in costume! |
