I was trying to evoke a particular emotion and feeling with this. Was I successful? What do you see? (literally and does it strike a chord with you?)

Nice...
When I saw it, I started to feel a bit queesy... but that's probably because I haven't eaten for a while... Looks like the figure in your drawing hasn't been eating for a lot longer than me though...
What do I see?
Hmmm... there's some sort of camp. Prison\refugee\concetration camp. Probably refugge camp. At least he is closed in.
Then there's the blood. Don't quite know what to think of that. Bloodtears, is it? Strange... at least he's not very happy...
Is he lobotomized? Looks that way... hmm... even stranger...
Anyhow...
Are you succesful?
Well, I don't quite know. There are things about the picture that could be better. The coloring is boring and smooth. I think it would be better if it were rougher.
Maybe some heavier blacks in the background elements would be nice to. There's little to hold the eye unto the picture.
But it's potentially a very capturing image.

A refugee camp? How about the guy is insane, hes in a straight jacket for cryin out loud. And the crap behind him has a grip of E's and L's. My guess is that it says either HELP or HELL, but my money is on help. Seems to me like the guy needs help dealing with his own self. Do i win the prize? |

I feel alone. Outcast. Like I don't fit in. I'm crazy.
Now... lets look at the picture. |

Straightjacket?
Where?
Ahhh... it's a straightjacket!
Still feel that he's more shut in than shut out, though.
Help?
Hell?
Help hell?
Hell help?
hmmm.... a mystery to me.... |

'I am emotionally cold, as is the rest of the world. Am I alone in realizing this? Is the world my solitary confinement?'
Really doesn't matter what you felt when you worked it, the picture stopped being your property when you shared it with me. It's now halfway mine. Thanks |

Okay, so what's with this picture?
Explanation:
Literally, it's a young man in a straightjacket, standing outside in the cold, surrounded by trees and a few buildings.
Emotionally, I was going for a very cold and sad work.
I always found it interesting to know what was going on in an artist's life and why she painted or wrote the song that she did. So here's my story:
You see, it's sort of my vomitting my sorrow for what's happening around me. I've been in love with and dating my best friend in the whole world for about a year now. She and I are a little bit nutty, but it's okay cause we're in love. But. It's a long distance relationship and I only get to see her every month or so (I left for college). The night before I painted this she told me that she has feelings for a friend of hers there. And so I painted this, which sort of voices the searing cold and numbness I feel and also sort of terror that I feel of losing her and being alone.
Bass_ex : it's funny that you mention that you're made queasy, I had actually vomitted an hour before I painted this (for the aformentioned reason). I see what you mean about the concentration camp (though that's not what I was really going for ). I almost took your advice about roughening up the picture, but I wanted to depict a cold sadness. I decided not to change it because I was afraid that adding the roughness might show an anger that I do not feel.
Presto Change O: I hadn't even thought of putting words into the picture, but now that I look at it again, I suppose the background (which I had originally meant to be trees and buildings) do resemble those words. I suppose this is a sort of plea for HELP and I am trapped in my own private (well...maybe not so private now ) HELL. I am also very conflicted. I haven't quite sorted out everything that I'm feeling.
Cleoric: I do feel outcast, indeed.
Torstein Nordstrand: Cold was the dominant feeling of the picture and exactly what I was trying to make you feel. Right on the money ^_^.
Kuku: Bingo. Although I have no idea how the heck you could get that from my picture (or how I could have infused it with that one singular need) but you're absolutely right. I'm leaving for home tomorrow.
scylla: Your reaction is the one I was going for the most. Of course, I feel both sad and innocent (I try to approach love in such a blind and open manner, trying to keep it innocent and pure, that I was completely crushed by the phone call that doleful Tuesday night).
From all your reactions, I'd say I was very successful. Thank you all for your posts . |

Wow. What a great time for her to tell you
That's really awful and I'm sorry to hear that
Makes me hate this world even more hearing things like this. Bah. |

Aaaggccckkkk!! girls they just tear yer heart out. But, man they just have to give you the look and your on cloud 999999999999999999999.
before I saw the explanation I thought you should use red. it ivokes feelings of anger, pain, suffering. After the blue works well but not to the max. I would just use blue and white and a touch of red here and there(On the figure). I would also suggest use a closing iris effect to localize on the figure.

*came back to add picture*
