hey y'all,
i had this idea while ago: a pic of a person who is somehow captured inside his own mind. i came up with this concept and just started sketching in ps....:



now i'm kinda stuck.

1. the green doesn't work for me. maybe i should use a more fleshier color...?! or even greyscale?
2. what about the positioning? now i only have a middleground, the guy looks kinda lost in all this black space - on the other hand that might support the theme of the pic - but still, i think there's some foreground missing.
3. should i maybe place some memories (a girl, etc ^^) outside of the bowl/inside his head or just leave it all empty...?! i prefer the emptiness... but then it's so very empty again... (see 2.)

i know this is kinda weird. hope you get my points...

Wow... that's some weird shit...

What you are attempting is waaaay beyond my abilities with color, so I really can't give you any critique... but.... if you really wanna pull this off I suggest that you... well...

- Get a colored glass sphere.

- Break it's top.

- Hang a G.I. Joe down in it.

With so much transparancy I think you have to study a bit. Look at winebottles. They're nice and green(At least some of them). Look at things through glass.

Right now something is a bit wrong... but I really hope you'll be able to pull the picture off, as it's very visually intruiging in an pseudo-surrealistic kind of way.

yeah, i guess i really need some reference here. good point on the whinebottles. i'll try that.
i was actually going for a more organic look. the thing he is captured in is by no means finished yet - i was going for something like you can see on the top of it (around the hole). with veins and shit.
it's not really supposed to get all glassy... more like some slimy, dirty kind of thing with varying thickness - so you'll only be able to see through parts of it.

Kinda reminds me of class sculptures that I saw this year. First of all, if you're going for a glass look, remember to have parts of it reflecting back white. The "mouth" of the "vessal" should be a bit more flattened to the surface of the sphere, unless you're going for the uneven look, in which case I would tend to really stress the fact that it's an irregularity in the shpere by stretching it out some.

It's a good idea to get photoreference or some kind of visual reference. You should be able to see the backside of the glass when you're dealing with transparent stuff. It'll just be a little darker. Also look at the walls of even a normal glass and see that you can see somewhat the thickness of the glass reflected in the sides of the glass due to it's properties.

Anyway, going into too much detail about glass. But a great idea that I'm interested to see worked til completion.

i guess i'll go for the uneven look. i don't want it too look too smooth & regular in the end for it is a part of the guys body and therefore something organic.
i'll probably get back to this thing, as soon as i'm finished with school (next monday... weeee).

i really suggest you have a look for some screenshots of the Final Fantasy film, theres a section where they use this weird green go just like that. go find some shots, NOW!!!!!!!!!!
