You won't hear me flame NIN, aside from it being too popular.

Let me help you.

I have never heard NIN and I don't know what they play or who they are.

This should give the thread some live.

I got no digs on NIN. Reznor rocks, if you can stand his usual whine.

NIN is quite good background music, for example the soundtrack of Quake is very nice.

Oh the only gripe I have against Trent is the ever so lousy SFX in Quake 1.

Seeing NIN in concert (with APC) was a religious experience. Much more so than any church or pow wow I've ever been to.

i wear a nin t-shirt most of the time 'cause the logo is fun fun fun.

Pretty Hate Machine and Broken had their moments. and a few tracks from the Closer to God/Further Away two cd thing. and a few on Fragile. but meh, it's a 90% shit 10% ruling ratio.

trent reznor is THE cornflakebox-goth. and no, that's not a good thing.

I enjoyed Downward Spiral, but everything else I heard wasn't very good.

Trent Reznor is a fox. Meeee-YOW. NIN is my all-time favorite band. Concert was amazing. There's not a song I don't like. My current favorite is Just Like You Imagined from The Fragile.

*forrest gump voice*

That's all I got ta say about tha-yat.

NIN is all about self reflection and a slight pinch of twisted vanity and emotional indulgence.

I really like the wretched...the piano riff-thing in that song is perfect...

(edit) while I'm at it, my spelling may as well be perfect too

P.S. has anyone heard the song "deadsouls" by NIN? It's either off an album I don't have, or really rare...

I'll upload it, here:

(edit) apparently UBB doesn't like spaces in URLs

Panda: if there are spaces in your url, use a %20 where the space should be. it will work.

on topic:

I Liked Further down the spiral the best i think...the Fragile also had its good points.

Specific songs?....A Warm Place, Great Below, Perfect Drug, and Piggy(FDTS version).

I can't stand the PD Mixes or Things falling apart...cause they did, they fell apart and sucked.

I love NIN and I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about them. I don't care if they (or should I say /he/ since it is really just about Trent?) get "too popular" or if the music isn't that "hard" anymore. So what? I loved NIN when I listened to Broken, I love NIN when I listen to Fragile.

Favourite song would most likely be the Wretched... It's just so... strong. Then there's a bunch of other songs of course. Lots of them.

reznor is far from being talented.

i've heard zero original or unique material from him. listen through Broke - The Fragile era material, then listen to just about every other big synthpop/industrial name of the late 80's/early 90's and tell me that reznor is not just recirculating old ideas that others came up with.

NIN/Trent Reznor sucks and this is why :

For some arcane reason his music only attracts total dumbfuck teenieboppers that worship him to death cause he seems to embody something that your average 14 year old wants but doesnt have. Uh? i dont even understand myself. What im trying to say is that ive seen too many fansites concentrating more on (semi)nude pictures of trent than on his music and that automatically translates into bad music, to me.

Next to that, industrial sucks if its not from east germany.

umm.. spitfire. im no teeniebopper. nor do i think jezebel, panda and enayla are. to say that his music only attracts those kinds of people is really lame. i do not worship him. nor do i dress up in weird clothes and look like some freak to see a concert of his. i just like his music for what it is

plus you shouldnt say he sucks. rather just say you dont like him. it usually upsets less people. :P

spitfire: if i were physically living 300 meters away from your place (MWAUAHAHAHA) i'd make you listen to alot of puppy and fla. then you'd see how infidel and simple and boring and repetitive every kind of metal and grind and hard gets so fast..

i doubt anyone here has listened to FLA as much as i have, and i can say that the soundscapes and programming for most of the FLA material made onwards from 1992 is just amazing. complex as fuck. the layers of sound and samples and cacophony and the music itself are just sweet.

a good way to enforce that point is that i've had Hard Wired for 4 years (in fact i own 3 different copies..) and still keep noticing new stuff from the sound layers almost every time i've listened to it.

besides, FLA has been active since 1985 and put out over 90 releases... how many hard/grindcore bands have even sold 10 000 records with their only album that they recorded with their tape recorder in their garage when their angst reached the highest peak? =)
