problems right from the begining, which is what you see.
the main focus of the image, is the guy you see partily drawn. however, im having major issues with anatomy, and perspective. or maybe its vice versa.
he is supposed to be standing on a platform, looking down into a mass of slaves, and is wiping them.
my main issues seem to be the waist and legs. the bottom drawing, (black) is the origianl, and the top drawing, (red) is me trying to figure out what went wrong.
does anyone have some suggestions?

Draw a simple block, and fill the block in with the forms of a human, respecting all proportions. They obey to the same perspective laws as the simple block, and when you know how to draw the perspective of the block, you can project the proportions of the figure onto the surfaces of the block, and so make less mistakes.
The second one is still closer to what you mean, I think. |

The red character's left leg is too short in comparison to it's right. Maybe we need to see some background also to look at the context of the pose.

did a quick drawing of the rest of the image. just laying it out, looking for foundations, strengths and weaknesses.
c what i mean though about the wip guy? i think it may just be how i have him standing. that might be wrong considering he is about to throw the wip. off balance? |

Mmmm... I think at the moment he's a bit too passsive. I'd imagine that he should be more MUH-HA-HA-HAAAR!!! and dominating the poor people below.

The way his legs are placed are wrong for cracking a whip i think. A while ago when my dad thought i should learn to properly crack a whip, he had me hold my legs apart one foreward, one backwards. Also his other arm should be making a circular motion as well, to counterbalance his arm making the whipping motion so he doesnt fall down. SO it wouldn't just be out like hes bracing it, it should be moving as well.

ah, i think thats what im having problems with. i went outside and started using my imaginary wip to see how my legs, body and arm move. but of course, i've never used a whip so im pretty sure the movement was incorrect. I think i might make that guy bigger, turn him a bit and get his legs positioned the way u suggest, (back and front) and get a circular motion for his opposite arm.
if the whip is in your left arm, which leg are you putting forward?
why did your dad think you need to know how to use a whip? im almost afraid to ask |
