Another boring picture, it seems I've lost all my creativity.. Anyway, feel free to comment and critique.

well, it seems there are definate problems with shading and highligts for this. i think its mostly to do with 2 very different styles of both.

what i mean by that, is you have the heavy sketch marks for shading, then, as well as what looks like the burn tool. same goes for the highlights.

now im not saying that these can never work together, because they probably could, maybe just not in this pic.

as for 'where' the shadows are, they are pretty close. the best thing to do is to simplify. use one light source, figure it out in your head as to where it is, and start working the shadows and highlights.

You say that you've lost your creativity, but creativity can be created. It doesn't have to come and go. Try moving the view point up or down to convey emotion. Put your subject in one of the areas of interest(draw lines across the pic seperating it into thirds both horizontally and vertically. Where the lines meet are the areas of interest.) Try using bold colors. Using all cool or all warm colors will give your work totally different moods. Make a background that matches the foreground. Give the subject an interesting facial feature, like a scar. How about a uniform? At least you can show some wear and tear on his shirt and hat. He looks like a hard working guy. I hope that gives you a few things to think about doing. I'm sure you can come up with something better.

Jabber: Yes, I've been doing mostly lineart stuff, but now that I got a tablet I want to practice more colors and lighting of course, which is pretty tedious.. Thanks for comments!

Drew: Hey, thanks for nice suggestions, I think I've ideas for improving already. Let's see if I have the patience to implement them some day. It seems I've been trying to follow the "rules" too much and lost some of the spontaneousness and creativity as well..
