Hi cayne-
Getting back to you here. Sorry I just finished up on a big job and couldn't post. Here is your original start.
I think your composition (which I must say is the first step in developing art ) needs a little more thought. Here is a suggestion.
Now I know this is a birch (I didn't figure that out until after this critique, but the principles are all the same. Form, light reveals form, and shadows support to define it. This bottom picture should describe that clearly to you. Move forward. Great job!

Pro, Now I am not positive but I think this branch is a study cayne is doing for a picture he or she is doing already, it should be on page one or page 2 in WIP at the most...the one with kids playing or something around a hill with a entrance.
Nice work here! Almost everything you do goes to my hard-drive for future reference

Hey Pro,
Thanks for replying. I currently have any updated pics to show you how much you have helped me, but I'm going to work on this stuff over the weekend- so hopefully by Monday, but I really feel like I'm catching on to the concepts behind painting more than I ever have. I know that you are helping a lot of people. Thanks.
Indian, you are right. The tree branch thing was a study for the painting in the other thread, but it was also an idea I had for the navigation bar on a website that I'm making. I don't think I'm going to use it- just doesn't seem web-sitey enough if you know what I mean. Here's a picture of what it was going to look like if I had used it (well, this is a rough version. I was going to actually finish painting it first).
Again, I really do want to thank everyone for their help. I appreciate it. Thanks. |

cayne, I like it. I think if you were to flush out the rest of the branch and perhaps drop the button down in the open space below it has potential. Maybe run the sites name along the upper branch (inside) or below. Anything different for an artist site is always a bonus. If this is a reflection of the style of art you like to paint or draw, it shows right on the index page.
Peace |
