EDIT: THE UPDATED PIC IS AT THE BOTTOM.
Ok, i've been strugling with drawing the female head for a long time now. I've overcome alot of obstacle but I believe i still suck. Anyways, here's a pic i'm working on, I spent alot of time on it but it still looks wrong. CC is greatly appreciated. Thanks

hey- it's not bad at all. try using some reference to iron out those anatomy problems- the ones that are most obvious to me are the head being too large, and the eye on the left too bulging instead of being properly placed inside its socket.
also, try refining some edges- don't let it all mix into a blur- some edges should remain firm to help define the shapes better. the nose is one of the areas that could definitely use some redefining.
one more important thing- cast shadows. shadows help with recognition of forms and structure, and it also helps creating a better graphic contrast.
anyway- i hope this doesn't discourage you- it's a good start and practice has a key role here.. keep drawing -use reference from time to time, and keep posting stuff here. |

hey bang, i did a quick little paint over on your image. here were some things i noticed. the eyes and nose are alittle too far apart. i moved the nose up. her left eye is drooping too much (like the boxer evander holifield) i dont' know, but i get the feeling we're looking up at her, so i tiped the nose little. plus it's ok to push the tones. ok, that's my two cents. |

Jr- Actually im making fun of the way you used the green in this paint over. If you notice you ONLY added green under the lip and the way you only have 2 visible green strokes makes it look like green hair under her lip. If you had green with reds and blues in the picture and have it a bit more well equal throught out the pic than i would have no comment =)...
And yeah i know what you mean about using too much green in a painting. Im in Art School right now and one of my classes is Human Figure painting. ANd i kinda tend to put too much Green and REds but my teacher likes it because i go beyond skin tone and adding brown to make it darker. You know most of my class mates use burnt sienna to make skin tone ( which i do to for my base colour) but then then either add black to make it darker and such making their paintings look a bit like crap...
Adding the right amount of greens and reds balance the picture =)... depends on the lighting too .. but sometimes i go purple yellow and orange blue =)...
Anyways Since i bought a digital camera im hoping to post some of my studies i will be doing in art college for the new semestre.. Some life drawing and life painting and maybe some perspective homework...
Anyways Dr Bang... i like your painting ( BTW im in ottawa right now at my parents house ) very clean.. But you have basic anatomy problems for example the eyes and eye sockets at too high and outwards you need to push them more into the head and lower them... You know what i mean? sorry if i cant illustrate what i mean my wacom is at my appartment and i dont have any painting programs. For a girl NOt being an asian girl ( if she is forgive me) but her face is a bit on the FLAT side. Meaning all of her features are almost on the same plane.
Maybe for future painting you could maybe study some skin tone. If you look closely you Can actually see more then the NORMAL skin colour you can see greens and reds and purples and oranges.. it all depends on the lighting...
Check this guy out.. http://www.simplestroke.com/figure.html
go to the last pic on the second row. Perfect example of red and green. Its soo well balanced that it looks VERY normal.. Same for most of his other pictures...
Well hoped i helped a bit and good luck with this painting or other paintings. |

Here's a quick paint-over:
Basically more shading around the eyes and a lowered hairline. |

Jr
That is VERY cool. Lucky you man? Dice is a Great Artist. So are you haha so dont get me wrong. I just didnt really like that green you put under the lip. It didnt do good to the painting unless you would have it in all the face... http://home.earthlink.net/~jrtistic/page1.htm
this pic from you shows you what i mean by balancing and putting green in the whole pic/figure ...
Anyways. I only wish i had the opportunity to study with good artist. In my class most people havent picked up a pencil and dont even understand anything.. makes me wonder how they even got in Sheridan College.. blah.. you lucky bastard haha...
