nice drawing. I like the smoothness of the shading. There could be more of it though. Like a friend of mine says..."You've only shaded too much when the pencil comes out on the other side of the paper." Contrast is a good thing
The troll's axe looks like it's been used to split diamonds or something - usually you might see a little dent or two in a drawing of an axe/sword or whatever...but as a minor detail, not a major feature.
the ears are a little too smooth on the inside...isially there are loads of folded skin among other things. The mouth looks a little too straight and angular.

Just a quick comment on the ax, I think that the notches are just a bit too symmetrically spaced. I think the face is just a bit too dragonballzish for my tastes. I also think you could've gotten a stronger pose and a more interesting expression on him. Your shading is pretty good though and your handling of the fur is rather nice. As novacaptain said though, contrast is a good thing! |

yo thanks for the comments!
I see what you mean about the shading it is a bit too light, the only thing is that when I shade heaps the drawing comes out really dark and dull...is this normal?
Gothic you said that it looks to dragonbalish....is there anyway that I can change this maybe give it more shading perhaps?
Thanks for the comments it is good to hear things that I cant pick up myself. |

In my opinion...the facial proportions make it a bit "dragonballish" the size of the eyes is one. Usually there is about the size of one whole eye between the eyes and the eyes aren't commonly that big (imagine the whole sphere of the eye and how much space it'd take up).
The wrinkles on his forehead could use some work too...i can't explain - use a mirror |

I'd have to say that the whole muscle structure is improbable on the face. Unless you are an 80 year old man, your skin doesn't fold over that sharply around your nose and cheek. If this is some beefy monster guy he's going to have muscles that bulge instead of crease.
also for the brows, the nose connects to the underside of your brow ridge so it would be the underside of the first wrinkle also. The verticle crease would go only about half as high too.
Of course these are just generalizations for the human body not a fantasy character, so you could disregard them in favor for something else that makes sincle though. Or you could just extrapolate human muscle organization to fit over the bones of your creature.
Other than the muscle thing, it seems to be pretty good. Very nice shading technique. Try some variable textures next, instead of just one style. It'll add a lot.
PS: I don't mean to sound like a prick when I say all these (I just reread this and I got that impression) just trying to help. |
