Hey, looks pretty cool! The swirlyish background I think looks really neat and textured. The shield in the ground looks good gives it a bit more attachment but it does look more chopped off then shoved into the ground. I think it is because it doesn't really look like the grass is following the curve of the shield. Also his foot and the club look kind of like they're hovering over the ground, I think if you pulled some grass over them like you did with the shield it would work pretty solidly hey? Still cool though, like your style!

You've got the start of a really interesting image here. I found it interesting how you've gone from you original sketch to the finished product. One thing that struck me was that the image was too dark and a bit flat. I've done a quick overpaint to illustrate one way to make the highlights lighter and the shadows darker. I think a bit more atmosphere has been added by having part of the character in shadow (this is only to demonstrate afterall, a picture is worth a 1000 words);

I like the structure of the image, but I think your colors are a bit saturated and your lighting a bit flat. Here's a quick overpaint:

All I did was scale down the overall saturation and popped a spotlight on the character. The spotlight color is far more saturated, so next to the relatively dull colors they take on additional "zing". If you work it right your paintings can develop a nice visual rhythm to them.
