I have no idea where to go with this though I had a lot of fun drawing him. I would love to color him but I really suck at coloring and I feel like he has so much potential. it still kinda blows though.

any ideas, c&c's paintovers etc are quite welcome. be friggin harsh.

Ah, heads in the waist always works nicely! Like in my Huge Guy with an Axe pic (drag it and drop it on the browser's address bar).

You want some crits? Well, the spearhead seems a little awkward...bent to the right a bit TOO much.

Oh, and seeing as how I read a LOT of fantasy stuff, let me just say something. It's a bit cosmetic, but hey, I'm a sucker for things done right. I have never read of an orc wearing a skirt.

Oh, and the skull on his necklace looks a bit too small compared to the heads in his waist. But it could always be a halfling's skull. Or a gnome's.

Cool pic, though.

I like it! But the belt, the hand and as Luke said the spear tip, needs some small adjustments.
Just for practising lighting, and because I liked the image, I did an overpaint, hope you like it.

Thanks for the crits. I LOVE that overpaint Steven. I am really looking to improve my digital painting skills and I learn best by example. Thanks very much. If its not too much trouble I would love to get a copy of your original file to play around with..I'd just like to see how you have your layers arranged, etc. [email protected] If you dont wanna then thats fine too.

As for the robe, skull and spear. The spear was meant to be a bit crooked, being as its not been made by the most skillfull of hands but I agree that its a bit too off.

The skull is indeed one belonging to a halfling. :evil As for the robe, well I just wanted him to differentiate him as a part of the clergy. Thus the left eye he put out himself, the bloody smear of the one eye symbol, and the God's favored weapon, a spear.

I collapse my layers when I don't need them anymore, but I can tell you what I did, it wasn't very complicated... First I put your drawing as a Multiply over an empty layer where I quickly blocked in all the colors, keeping them very dark. Then at the top I added a layer set to Screen where I painted to get the highlights started. I jumped back and forth a bit, darkening bits in the bottom layer, adjusting things in the highlight layer.
When I noticed I was getting kinda stuck, I collapsed it and went on with the paint tool set to normal. Near the end I airbrushed a dark orange set to Screen over the lower righthand corner.

(At first I had the cloth green, but I soon saw that was bad, so I selected it and changed the color.)

Ahh, too bad. Oh well. Thats basically exactly the same thing I do. I just gotta practice practice. My only problem is that I have gotten so used to my Wacom at work and I dont have one at home so it makes it hard to get motivated to paint with a bad mouse though I have managed it before.

My poor USB ports are busted by lightning so no scanning or wacom.

If you dont mind I will probably either go back over yours or use yours as a lighting reference and add in all the details. I have a lot of other pics that I would love to see how you handle them if you ever want to collaborate.
