Hey guys,
I wanted to make a kind of dark/scary type painting.
But the problem is it doesn't look spooky enough..
What can i change or add to it to enhance the effect?
comments and suggestions appreciated.

(i hope this works)

Thanks.

the angle on the chair is nice. It adds an almost horror film-esque herky jerky camera angle feel to the scene. I think where this piece is lacking is in the choice of tones. Maybe this could be improved with more dramatic highlights, or a more defined light source, (such as a candle or a samll lamp.) Frankly the lighter tones at the the top of the painting are almost comforting. So yeah, work on the agnle and tones. Your choice of red seems like a good one. Keep it up, I want to see the final!

Yep, what Ian said pretty much. All i would add is maybe a slight variance in hue on the subjects face or anypart of the composition you whish to bring special attention to.

Looks great!

It kind of made me think of an artist named Coles Philips whos characters clothes sometimes blended perfectly into the background.

Cool style though.

Putting more focus on the girl in terms of detail I think would help. I tried visualizing it that way it seemed a lot more spooky to me.

i think the facial expression on the girl's face is what would sell it. probably more of a blank expression or something. I dunno, but I like how it's coming along a whole bunch.

For some reason, I think backlighting the upper half of the figure might help. Like Bradford said, put more emphasis on the figure. Draw the eye to her more quickly. I kinda roamed around until I found the hotspot.

It's like advertising: if you haven't mentioned your product name in the first 10 seconds, you've lost the sale. Well, in this case, you have to sell your concept of where the eye should rest; and quickly!

Love the coloring. Reminds me of one of those late-night 70's b-movies. Really moody.
