Heres the story: Kristen Perry (www.merekatcreations.com) has drawn the line art for a coloring contest on another art forum. Below is the original line art, and then my coloring of it. Obviously, I took some liberties here. Anyways, Im concerned that its too dark on some screens. Tell me if you can see clearly enough the outline of the ominous alian cyborg thats chilling in the background. Other than that, gimmi crits, comments--whatever. Im about to put a few finishing comments before I replace Merekat (Kristen)'s signature and post it for judging.
Original:
My coloring:
Again, Im worried that its too dark and you cant see some of my details. Let me know what it looks like with your screen settings. Is there a way to save it lighter w/ more contrast than Jpg makes it?? |

Great pic and good luck with the contest!
Did you paint that on a Mac? Alot of times pictures created on Mac appear dark on PC screens. I viewed this on both and can see the tentacle things coming off the robot guy in the dark area.
I usually punch my jpgs with brighness/contrast and sharpen a bit before uploading now to offset the PC viewing delimma.
Looks good as is! |

Thankyou...
nope, PC here. I keep my screen pretty light and bright tho. Im sure this sounds like a dumb question (im fairly new to photoshop) but how can I "punch my jpgs with brighness/contrast and sharpen a bit before uploading now to offset the PC viewing delimma"?? This sounds like what I've been trying to do. Thanks bunches |

Christ Almighty... if you're 15 I fear the day when you become a full-fledged artist.
Fantastic work. Keep it up, by all means. |

It's great! and nice idea for background.
It has same problem like your other pic; clothes looks a little blurry. But not so badly... |

Great color job. Also, nice used of negative space for the baddie.
I would love to see the rest of the entries in this contest. Which forum is this for? |

This is from the Megatokyo art forum (www.megatokyo.com). Megatokyo is an online comic, but alot of the fans enjoy art. Its not loaded with pros like this Sijun forum, but still. What kinds of problems do the clothes have? |

Fifteen?
Fifteen!? Oh sheesh... that's just bloody unfair.
Really sweet work. I mean /really/ sweet. I'd eat my own foot to have been able to colour like this when I was fifteen - I'd be a /genius/ by now!
The shape of her eye is just a wee bit odd looking in the coloured version, but that's only visible if I stare for a good long while looking for mistakes.
Argh. |

Cool you give the link to the forum where you found this original black & white picture to colorize. I would have been interested in participating to this contest with such an image!

Thats really kickin, but the only part that bothers me is you saying your taking the original artists signature off. I think you should add yours to it not delete it. And if i had half the talent you have at 15, i'd be frieakin rich by now.... good luck in the contest. |

"Im about to put a few finishing comments before I replace Merekat (Kristen)'s signature and post it for judging" By replace I mean To "put it back"; re (do over) place (put). Sorry for the confusion there. It was never my intention to steal any credit, or remove her signature. The signature got covered up in my painting, and I was (and at this point have) placed her signature back. Go check out the galler/finished work section to see. |
