Drawing the same face twice is difficult for me so I figured I draw a face at random and then try to recreate it at different angles. I ended up drawing the hair quite a bit like Meryl Silverburgh from Metal Gear Solid so I just ran with it. Then I ran into a couple more problems I have: clothes and hair. Instead of looking for references I just figured I'd wing it and see how much I've learned about shapes and lighting.
Comments, crits, suggestions etc welcome.
BTW, anybody know if there is a way to link the wacom's pen angle with anything in photoshop? (esp. brush size and/or shape would rock)
Oh wow...Never thought I'd say this but, I just had an epiphany while looking at my cat. [smacks his forehead with his hand] Duh. Well I think I have a much better idea on how to render hair thanks to my cat. I guess that will be my next project. I'll explain later. |

I was just starting to hit another epiphany while putting some colors to her face when I started to dose off too much. I hate having to go to sleep as much as I hate having to get up. Anyway, I don't think I'm going to do much else to it. I'd rather put some time into creating something with a composition, a foreground, mid-ground, and background. One of these days I'm going to put something in the 'finished' part of the forum, damnit.
I think I've learned to avoid using the linework layer when doing colors. I need to learn to drop the opacity on it until I paint over it enough and don't need it anymore or something. Or maybe i should try using the smudge tool...Any thoughts on that (or anything else for that matter)?
oh crap, I forgot to explain the cat thing didn't I? Maybe another time.

Not bad.. The figure looks a bit skewed, but if you are just messing around it is a good start... keep practicing and make a full pic someday |
