Here is what I have done so far in PS. The rest of the body is just blocked in so it's not worht showing, really.

I would add more contrast, to indicate more depth... perhaps even vary the tone of the skin? Right now he looks a bit flat (I was gonna say he looks jolly flat but that wouldn't be correct, and probably mean :-P). He's not bad, but just a bit flat...
