I'm currently participating in a coloring contest over in the megatokyo forums. The idea is that someone (Merekat... I don't think she posts here) did some lineart, and everyone would color it in. Really standard stuff.

However, while coloring in the lineart, I stumbled across my old nemesis: Backgrounds and perspective. I have close to zero experience with drawing enviorenments, which I remembered at a rather unfortunate moment. I was thinking about drawing her inside a corridor, slightly futuristic, gunmetal-style walls, stylized metal support beams, reflective floors etc. But I just can't get started.

So I would be eternally grateful if anyone could help me out, by pointing me in the direction on tutorials or studies on how to get started and draw good backgrounds (preferrably step-by-step... I'm a slow learner

).
Also, I'm not quite finished with coloring the girl either, so if anyone can spot anything I ought to change or add, please do not hesitate to tell me.

I just checked out the thread and the original line art has a background. Do you have to go by that or are you free to create your own? I'm interested in coloring it myself.

Well... She did say we could be creative, so I figured I should try to do a new background to be at least a little original
