since nobody replied to my last thread asking for help on a literary magazine on which i'm working, i thought i would show you some in-progress shots of a skin i'm doing. any questions, comments, whatever... shoot.

one should note that i did not do the original body skin. this is a major touchup of the model ut_trooper with a completely new head.

Doesnt look too bad, but two things stand out to me;

. The expression doesn't look totally suitable for the type of character it is. Looks a little more bemused than tough according to my eyes.

. The contrast isn't consistant. Under the eyes, nose and mouth you've got really heavy shadowing, but the rest of the head seems to have been shaded with quite different lighting in mind. This causes a real conflict between the parts of the head.

Just some ideas anyway.

Row.

thanks for the input. i made some of the changes to the lighting and attempted the facial expression, but the model wasn't designed for the intensity/agression i had intended.

when i had drawn (i dunno... painted?) the face originally in photoshop, it was intended as a reskin for the xaero model. i decided it might be fun to try it out on a more realistic model, especially since the original skin was hurting...
here is the face:

You obviously have some good illustrative skills but your skins are coming off a bit flat and you need to pay a bit more attention to the rest of the body. You have a lot of nice things going in the head but the body is not on par with it. Also try to match up you seems a little better. I know that camouflage may be a bit tricky but it can be done. Keep up the good work.

word, i loveUrban Terror, its the only reason I still play quake. His head looks pretty good, is that hair or stubble from shaving his head?

for those of you with Q3 go download urban terror, beta 2 is coming out soon and promises to be great fun, but even the old version with its wacky character animation is fun and addictive.. http://www.urbanterror.net - and the community is great.

thanks for the input guys. i found out that the model is not going to be included in the next beta, so the skin would be obselete relatively soon. yes, i noticed that the hair/scalp looks weird. i don't know what i was going with this one. for now, i will consider the skin put to rest, but comments i received will be very helpful in my next release. yup. exactly.
