wassup
looks like we'll be switching over to phpBB
its super customizable...i've spent most of the weekend creating a new look for the forums. the basic colors and layout will remain the same, but it will look more polished than the current forum. seems to be a bunch of nice new features.
the option is available for avatars (little square custom picture under your name when you post in a topic) but i'm still not sure whether or not to run this option on...seems like it'll just use up bandwidth. what do you all think...i have a feeling more people will want them...if this is the case, i still might not turn it on, just want you to know i still am interested in feedback though.

avatars seem to work well on EatPoo, but then, I started browsing there when I got an ADSL connection...
Mind you, 8000 possible members x ~10kb per avatar = 80,000k or 80Mb to download and cache...
But yeah, I think avatars might be cool. |

I actually wouldnt like avatars. At least not animated ones (but I guess there is no way to control this with a forum software).
Perhaps its possible that registered users can turn them off for them self in their own profile. That would solve it.
However, Im curious what the new forum software will be like... |

I think avatars only make sense if you can link to an off-site avatar. I too think that might be cool.

That would affect the server as well or only the users? |

I also wouldn't like avatars.
They are useless for sijun [me thinks]
But it would be okay if you could create this "turn off for themself" funktion antx mentioned.
However...thanks for the update dhabih !!! |

Admitely avatars are (usually) pretty as well as giving a visual reference for remembering users, I'd rather have sijun NOT hop on the bandwagon.
The forum has always been avatar and sig banner free. I love it. It makes us focus more on the actual artwork. no ? |

NO avatars PLEASE!! Most avatars suck nuts. I mean youd think at least an artist would make an avatar himself and not just use one of those "funny" pictures out there. But most avatars used are those joke-pictures that are only funny for SO long and in addition it slows down page-loading, thats not worth it imo. I could live with an option to turn dem off though. |

I have to agree.. its bad enough that people post bigass pictures in every thread, i dont want to load even more pictures on my modem. No avatars please, or atleast a function to disable them.

Maybe there could be more moderators...i don't know if they're really needed though, Suma and Freddio seem to be handling everything fast and effiently already. |

Please, don't allow avatars. It gets annoying, and bad avatars make it look cheap. |
