Here is an alternative, anyone familiar with linux will know of GIMP. There is now a windows port available for free:

its pretty damn close to the power that photoshop has

or you could get all the programs that everyone else uses...by downloading something called kzaa..or kazaa or something like that...never tried it but i heard that it was good..but a little on the illeagle side obviously
